I live in Ukraine and we have our own massive problems to deal with (that take up an enormous amount of mental energy), but it pains me to see the mass killings in Gaza.

I am increasingly finding it difficult to see how the Israeli colonial regime is any better than the russians (putin is a mere symptom of the broad support for genocidal imperialism in russian society).

P.S. I will add it's annoying (in a base, reflexive sense) to see this from MiddleEastEye, they are huge supporters of russian imperialism.

It's not. The only reason Ukraine isn't like Gaza is that Ukraine has an army to protect it, and if Ukraine didn't have an army to protect it it'd be like Gaza. Russia and Israel are similar to a frankly kind of ridiculous degree.

It's not so much that they are like each other, they are both proponents of a new sort of unforgiving, relentless warfare. For decades, we have been trying to fight wars with Rules, but the old saying "All's fair in Love and War" has returned with a vengeance.

America has wasted trillions of dollars and thousands of lives, fighting wars by the Rules, with little to show for it, so it makes sense that new, more successful, methods of warfare would eventually emerge. When America's next war starts, expect that we will be committing the same sorts of atrocities.

They aren't any different in what they are doing, they are different in size and scale.

Huuh you know russia and israel are allies from the start, yes? Netanyahu and Putin always have been closed. The guns and bombs the west send to israel? Some of them ended up in russia. Don't be naive. You are a pawn in a chessgame and all the player want is to sell more guns.

Yeah this source is almost certainly a middle eastern state's propaganda channel likely Saudi Arabia or Qatar.

Middle East Eye is based in London and even the pro Israeli MBFC rates it as highly credible and mostly factual. What the heck are you on about?

The accusations against MEE come from Saudi Arabia and the UAE who don't like people talking about their atrocities in English languaged media, especially as they try to influence the Muslim communities in Western countries like the UK with funding for Salafism and the like.

[–] RowRowRowYourBot@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is Media Bias Fact Check credible in their assessments? Im not sure that has ever been demonstrated to be the case and frankly I give none if those sources any credibility.

The fact is we have no idea who owns Middle East Eye and that is critical in determining what bias they do have. And for this exact reason you might see why I give MBFC zero credibility.

[–] Saleh@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Do these statements seem coherent to you? They are both your statements.

Yeah this source is almost certainly a middle eastern state’s propaganda channel likely Saudi Arabia or Qatar.

The fact is we have no idea who owns Middle East Eye and that is critical in determining what bias they do have.

Also that you think that it is likely Saudi Arabia or Qatar shows that you neither now much about the politics in the region, nor do you know much about the topics covered by MEE.

It is like claiming some channel would be either propaganda from Taiwan or China, or either Russia or Ukraine...

The suspicion is based on payments people have tracked suggests one of those two nations as the likely owner of the paper. We cannot be certain who owns it. The fact that KSA and Qatar are not aligned is entirely irrelevant as to where the money came from as I never suggested it was a joint venture.

You don’t know me so you should probably not claim to understand what I do and don’t know about the region just because you are hurt that I don’t believe your source, Media Bias Fact Check, has any validity.

The contrast between their coverage of Gaza and their embrace of russian imperialism (with the typical "I oppose the invasion but ... NATO, Nazis, bla bla) makes it difficult for me to take them seriously.

[–] RowRowRowYourBot@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 weeks ago

I always forget which has a measure of credibility Middle East Monitor or MiddleEast Eye (it's Monitor)
