@David EnrichI find this all so hypocritical: why is one of the greatest novels - celebrated by intellectuals & literateurs - in the hands of Epstein - suddenly verboten - even illegal and sacriligeous. We have wandered into an age of some kind of weird neo-Puritanism where the contradictions proliferate - marriage btwn men and marriage btwn women - that's OK? But not the object of desire of all gens of classical antiquity: from Rembrandt (who married his 14 yr old maid - after his fame and fortune had diminished) to Picasso who picked up 16 yr old Marie Therese Valter in front of a Parisian department store saying "I'm Picasso. Come with me and I'll make you famous' or something like that. Or Achilles who went to sulk in his tent after the king (Agammemnnon) had made off with his teenaged trophy nymph. Or Salinger who was obsessed with teenaged women (after WWII traumas) and on and on. So many ironies and now this Epstein case. Not to mention that any young woman who engaged in this sort of activity knew what she was doing - as unseemly as it was but esp prevalent in an age where young women are sexually engaged & promiscuous from 13 or 14 on. IMHO sexuality shouldn't be legislated: Matter of personal choice - at least for as long as some of our other accepted practices are as previously mentioned above. And esp when we eroticize the dress of young women. (in the end it's another nail in the coffin of hetero behavior.). Artistic Director Great Am Play Series Reply 2 Recommend
