That's a political compass team wipe.
Fidel heard he was really good at winning the lottery and wanted tips so he could spend it on communisms.
Absent any evidence to the contrary, I'm choosing to believe that the trillion dollar bill scene was inspired by the events at this meeting
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Before we get too silly, meeting a high profile, rich operative is one thing. Visiting the island or flying on the Lolita express is another. Of course if that did happen...
Epstein made the likely illegal trip to the island in 2003 from the Bahamas, off the grid, at Fidel Castro’s invitation.
Epstein flew to Cuba with Andrés Pastrana, the Colombian former president, who revealed the connection Wednesday after he was forced to explain why his name was on the flight manifest of Epstein’s private jet.
“Amid journalistic revelations about horrifying and reprehensible sex scandals of financier Jeffrey Epstein, a trip of mine on his plane to Nassau, Bahamas has appeared, to transfer to the final destination of Havana, Cuba, invited by President Fidel Castro,” Pastrana said in a statement posted on Twitter.
i think it's this, still wild that former president would use local billionaire (by 2003 epstein was still upstanding citizen with dodgy rumours, i think?) plane
I would think that if he were on the list the ghouls would have released his name SO FAST, but maybe not
Starting to look like Epstein's job description was just to get a photo with every living public figure known to mankind.
Maybe he got into the whole sex trafficking thing to support his hobby of getting in photos with the rich and famous.
Fidel you had ONE JOB, do NOT meet with the billionaire pedophile. How could you fuck that up??
thinking he had a little bit more jobs tbh
imo rule of thumb is a meeting/photo op or being in his contact book doesn't mean anything on its own since Epstein was a total starfucker/clout shark. flight log (or other reports of going to the island), then someone was at the very least complicit in predation.
so Fidel is probably fine re: Epstein. this rule of thumb sadly also extends to evil people/people we don't like.
I think the fact that we are applying the current era of information exchange to every other era in human history doesn’t bode well for us tbh
I mean to say we act like the internet/information has always been this ubiquitous which borders on erasing history. We also act like we know the stories behind everything, and this is a good example of why you shouldn’t treat fallible humans like superheroes because you don’t know half the shit you think you do
i find it rather unlikely that fidel knew shit (especially if this is indeed from 2003), the title is ironic
Agreed, but I’ve already seen some comments elsewhere “Cancelling” him
I’m getting too old for this shit
pfft, my man made 1 (one) mistake and owned up to it
I guess he's with former Colombian Right-Wing President Andres Pastrana.
Pastrana wrote in a Twitter statement: 'Amid journalistic revelations about horrifying and reprehensible sex scandals of financier Jeffrey Epstein, a trip of mine on his plane to Nassau, Bahamas has appeared, to transfer to the final destination of Havana, Cuba, invited by President Fidel Castro,' . 'Mr. Jeffrey Epstein left Cuba a day or two later; I stayed on the island,' he added.
The 73-page flight record, which was acquired by the Miami Herald, didn't show the Cuban leg of the trip nor did it appear in data stored by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Pastrana, who attempted to disassociate himself from the child predator, acknowledged he first met Epstein at the Academy of Achievement summit held in Ireland in June 2002.
'I met Mr. Jeffrey Epstein in Ireland when I was honored at the 'Summit of Achievements' in Dublin, a widely publicized ceremony that was attended by Mikhail Gorbachev, Bill Clinton, Bono and Jeremy Irons. I never knew about Mr. Jeffrey Epstein's now-infamous island,' said Pastrana.
Pastrana was president of Colombia from August 1998 until August 2002, and went on to be Ambassador to the United States in 2005 and 2006.
Presentism is distilled idealism as it is an undialectical method of examining the past and strips from the historian the tools of historical materialism as it erases the analysis of human activity through dialectics and historical facts and runs into the fundamental problem all other idealistic social theories that analyze human activity being the problem of the relationship between people’s consciousness and their existence.
I’m guessing that this doesn’t bode well for stoicism
Quoting Karl here, "The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point is to change it"
Said it much better than I ever could
It seems that some other president dragged Epstein with him, right? Fidel didn't invite him by name
Andres Pastrana said Epstein was going to Bahamas and later on decided to visit Cuba for a day, they meet with Fidel and Pastrana stayed while Epstein flew to some other country. The Miami Herald (a known gusano newspaper) goes on some weird conspiracy theory that Epstein was planning to live in Cuba or whatever.
Pastrana wrote in a Twitter statement: 'Amid journalistic revelations about horrifying and reprehensible sex scandals of financier Jeffrey Epstein, a trip of mine on his plane to Nassau, Bahamas has appeared, to transfer to the final destination of Havana, Cuba, invited by President Fidel Castro, Mr. Jeffrey Epstein left Cuba a day or two later; I stayed on the island,' he added.
At the same time, and particularly from 2001 to 2003 before the dissident crackdown, Castro was basking in the accolades of the clueless Hollywood left, who were angry that George W. Bush was president. Jeffrey Epstein ran in celebrity circles and partied with them, so Cuba would have easily been on his radar.
The day before Jeffrey Epstein flew to Havana on his Lolita Express, 75 dissidents, independent journalists and librarians were rounded up across the island in a series of brutal raids that became known as the Cuban Black Spring. The government imprisoned 75 dissidents, including 29 journalists on the basis that they were acting as agents of the United States by accepting funds from the US government and George W. Bush's administration at the time.
The crackdown on dissidents began on 18 March, during the US invasion of Iraq, and lasted two days. All of the dissidents were eventually released, most of whom were exiled to Spain starting in 2010.
Doesn't seem like Fidel had much contact with him?
I don't think Fidel even knew who he was other than "another American/Western Businessman". During that time Cuba was getting visits from many Latin American and some American famous people. Even the gusano newspapers say that Fidel probably just accepted him there because he thought Epstein was just another famous American person with ties to Latin American leaders who wanted to visit Cuba.
I couldn't find any news in Spanish or Portuguese about it, but I guess if there's a photo, it must have happened. It wouldn't surprise me if rich Americans were secretly taking short vacations in Cuba using fake passports. Pastrana is a POS and very dishonest, but he confirmed that they were going to the Bahamas first and then decided to visit Cuba because Fidel invited them both, but I imagine Pastrana was the one who actually interacted and talked to Fidel.

@David EnrichI find this all so hypocritical: why is one of the greatest novels - celebrated by intellectuals & literateurs - in the hands of Epstein - suddenly verboten - even illegal and sacriligeous. We have wandered into an age of some kind of weird neo-Puritanism where the contradictions proliferate - marriage btwn men and marriage btwn women - that's OK? But not the object of desire of all gens of classical antiquity: from Rembrandt (who married his 14 yr old maid - after his fame and fortune had diminished) to Picasso who picked up 16 yr old Marie Therese Valter in front of a Parisian department store saying "I'm Picasso. Come with me and I'll make you famous' or something like that. Or Achilles who went to sulk in his tent after the king (Agammemnnon) had made off with his teenaged trophy nymph. Or Salinger who was obsessed with teenaged women (after WWII traumas) and on and on. So many ironies and now this Epstein case. Not to mention that any young woman who engaged in this sort of activity knew what she was doing - as unseemly as it was but esp prevalent in an age where young women are sexually engaged & promiscuous from 13 or 14 on. IMHO sexuality shouldn't be legislated: Matter of personal choice - at least for as long as some of our other accepted practices are as previously mentioned above. And esp when we eroticize the dress of young women. (in the end it's another nail in the coffin of hetero behavior.). Artistic Director Great Am Play Series Reply 2 Recommend
don't nyt commenters have to pay for new york crimes?
I believe so. Might be able to comment with a free account too but i just use bypass paywalls clean on firefox w/ no account just to read
in the words of memri tv, these are not intellectual people, to put it mildly

But they sure think they are
JP2 meeting with Epstein doesn't surprise me in the slightest
Two biggest pedo rings in the world overlapping
he was a notorious shagger
Surprised no one is considering the angle that Epstein just liked doing illegal shit, so meeting enemies of the state is just an amuse-bouche before whatever evil he had booked that evening.
