There is nothing wrong with consuming less if you can afford to do so. I don't get why shame such movements, it's needless to say that a systemic change would be more effectful, but participating in such a movement is in and of itself a form of protest

It's a performative distraction that makes people feel better on an individual level without actually addressing underlying root causes. These movements act as roach motels that divert people from engaging with problems in a meaningful way.
