Ernst Thälmann was born in Hamburg, Germany, on 16th April, 1886. His friend, Wilhelm Pieck, later recalled: "As the son of a class-conscious worker organised in the Social-Democratic Party, Ernst Thälmann came into the Socialist movement in his early youth. He was hardly sixteen years old when he joined the Social-Democratic Party. A member of the Transport Workers Union he joined the Social Democrat Party in 1903.

Friedrich Ebert now replaced him as leader of the party. Like most socialists in Germany, Ebert was initially opposed to the idea of Germany going to war. However, once the First World War had started, he ordered the SDP members in the Reichstag to support the war effort.

Thälmann disagreed with the policies of Friedrich Ebert but he was recruited into the German Army in 1915 and during the First World War fought on the Western Front. He deserted in 1918 and when he arrived back in Germany he joined the Independent Socialist Party (ISP). Other members included Kurt Eisner, Karl Kautsky, Julius Leber, Rudolf Breitscheild and Rudolf Hilferding. Ernst Thälmann was active in the German Revolution in Hamburg that began on 29th October 1918.

Thälmann was on the left-wing of the ISP and was a leading figure in the merger with the German Communist Party (KPD) in November 1920. The following month he was elected to the Central Committee of the KPD. Paul Levi was the leader of the KPD. Other prominent members included Willie Munzenberg, Ernst Toller, Walther Ulbricht, Hermann Duncker, Hugo Eberlein, Paul Frölich, Wilhelm Pieck, Ernest Meyer, Franz Mehring and Clara Zetkin. Levi's moderate approach to communism increased the size of the party.

Ernst Thalmann was elected to the Reichstag. In the summer of 1921 Thälmann went as a representative of the German Communist Party to the 3rd Congress of the Comintern in Moscow and met Lenin. In June 1922 Thälmann survived an assassination attempt at his flat. Over the next few years he established himself as one of the most important figures in the German Communist Party.

Ernest Meyer now became the leader of the German Communist Party. Meyer returned to Moscow in 1922 as a member of the German delegation to the 4th World Congress of the Comintern. However, his influence went into decline with the emergence of Thälmann, who replaced Meyer as the Chairman of the KPD in 1925. Ernst Thälmann was the candidate for the German Presidency in 1925.

Thälmann was the party's presidential candidate in 1932. He won 13.2 of the vote compared to the 30.1 received by Adolf Hitler. In January 1933, Thälmann proposed that the German Communist Party (KPD) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) should organise a general strike in order to remove Hitler. When these negotiations broke down, Thälmann called for the violent overthrow of Hitler's government.

After the Reichstag Fire on 27th February, 1933, the Nazi Party launched a wave of violence against members of the German Communist Party and other left-wing opponents of the regime. This included Thälmann who was arrested and imprisoned on 3rd March 1933.

Ernst Thälmann spent over eleven years in solitary confinement. He was executed in Buchenwald Concentration Camp on 18th August 1944. A few days later the Nazi government announced that Thälmann and Rudolf Breitscheid had been killed in an Allied bombing attack.

The dining director is all "nobody can take any food home" again and honestly i wanna scream at him over it. Right after 3 months of unemployment isn't really when I want to quit my job but this shit really pisses me off. None of the arguments these dipshits have even applies to me. The cost of styrofoam containers? Fuck you, I just looked it up and I could buy 5 boxes of 200 for 150 dollars (to get free shipping) and then wow no cost to them for literally the next 6 years of me taking shit home every day. Then when the director was telling this other woman not to take shit home (i was over hearing which is how I know they're cracking down) he was saying some shit about how when he worked at chik fil a he'd have a rack of sandwiches left over every night on purpose to take home. Well guess what motherfucker, I'm not doing that, I make two hotel pans worth of each dish unless I need to make more and I'm throwing away the least of anybody because all that shit gets put out as leftovers. I'm even re using the extra cabbage i roasted Monday in a rice dish. Like fuck off do not say shit to me about fucking food waste.

And I ALREADY feel under paid, i should have gotten a review 90 days + another 50 cents after i switched into the kitchen and that never happened, just the initial pay increase to cook. Now im the vegan chef and I'm doing 3x more than the last TWO vegan chefs did because neither of them worked on the menu or did half the extra shit I do. I'm both doing more as a chef than they did, and still helping out the other cooks with THEIR job (it's not my explicit responsibility to make sure they have alfredo for lunch and dinner, that's not vegan, I never use it for anything obviously, but I help them make it all the time).

So like fuck the dining director, fuck this shit. If they want to stop me from taking home food that I cooked then they need to fucking pay me more to compensate.

Aside from how this impacts me personally I just want to scream at them about how shortsighted and shitfucked their perception of costs is as managers, like, they can put a $$$ value on the fucking styrofoam and PERCEIVED food waste (which is never going away unless they open the doors to the homeless to eat for free, we will ALWAYS have waste because the students' dining habits are unpredictable other than as vague trends) but just because you can't do the same for MY FUCKING MOTIVATION TO COOK GOOD FOOD doesn't mean the cost of losing that doesn't outweigh the cost of the fucking money they spend.

The president of the school eats vegan btw too so any but of extra mile shit I'm doing directly makes the company look better to the one person who probably matters in terms of impressing as a "customer" but idk I guess if they want me to feed her plain jasmine rice instead of being excited to make yaki miso onigiri (and taking home one or two for my gf) then I guess that's fucking on them!

If they say it's the containers, bring tupperware. We get free food where I am but for some reason the owner draws the line on the boxes. We just use the boxes anyway cause management thinks it's dumb too

The owner spends WAY too much on boxes cause she wants the logo for the business printed on them to I guess...either advertise to people who already bought food or to take advantage of our clear cardboard recycling bag laws and advertise via garbage? But even still it's absurd that we can have the food but not a box to take it home. First off, the food costs more than the box anywayz it's like an extra dollar in this case, which is way too much for a pizza box. I could make a bigass stamp myself and solve that issue, for money. If someone is about to pack up a staff meal.the chef loudly announces he has to go to the walk in for a bit and does so.

I know, I know, but this is SUCH a grapes of wrath moment!!

the long two passages about the same fucking thing written about the 1930sThe works of the roots of the vines, of the trees, must be destroyed to keep up the price, and this is the saddest, bitterest thing of all. Carloads of oranges dumped on the ground. The people came for miles to take the fruit, but this could not be. How would they buy oranges at twenty cents a dozen if they could drive out and pick them up? And men with hoses squirt kerosene on the oranges, and they are angry at the crime, angry at the people who have come to take the fruit. A million people hungry, needing the fruit- and kerosene sprayed over the golden mountains. And the smell of rot fills the country. Burn coffee for fuel in the ships. Burn corn to keep warm, it makes a hot fire. Dump potatoes in the rivers and place guards along the banks to keep the hungry people from fishing them out. Slaughter the pigs and bury them, and let the putrescence drip down into the earth.

There is a crime here that goes beyond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannot symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. The fertile earth, the straight tree rows, the sturdy trunks, and the ripe fruit. And children dying of pellagra must die because a profit cannot be taken from an orange. And coroners must fill in the certificate- died of malnutrition- because the food must rot, must be forced to rot. The people come with nets to fish for potatoes in the river, and the guards hold them back; they come in rattling cars to get the dumped oranges, but the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the potatoes float by, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quick-lime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage

Its pure profit brain, which still infects not for profits. Theres no shrinkage from staff taking waste home. Even if you guys went really profligate and cooked stuff just to take home - look at the food cost on what youre producing.
