what sort of gear does the national guard carry, do they have flashbangs and smoke grenades/tear gas and stuff? could you join and accidentally tear gas your entire group if you were a silly clumsy lad or lass?
Usually your weapon, kevlar helmet, LBE (load bearing equipment) canteen or CamelBak and MAYBE an IBA (Individual Body Armor.)
