my experience playing minesweeper mostly goes like: solving, solving, solving... ok so these three corners all have a 50/50 chance, the only thing I can do is click randomly while acknowledging there's an 87.5% chance I lose for no real reason

Yep, every time minesweeper comes up I link this version.
Open source, made by the PuTTY dev, and deterministic. No RNG outside of the map seed.
Correct.
The real challenge to minesweeper is speedrunning.
Back when I had a corpo job, I got really good at it and could pretty reliably solve the small one in under 15 seconds.
