Tbf rinworld is based off dwarf fortress, so I consider them in ring
Totally fair, but I still gotta rep for the game that got me into the genre
Yeah, but I'm willing to bet that there are more RimWorld players than Dwarf Fortress players.
Given that DF is free and has been around for nearly 20 years, I doubt that.
The free version is graphically prehistoric. Steam game is good
Yeah, the text-based style of DF makes it inaccessible for 99% of the potential players.
I was so disappointed when I bought it, thinking it would be DF with modern UI, and then realized it's 2D.
Digging elaborate 3D canal systems to utilize hydraulic water pressure, power your forges with lava tunnels underneath, and combine both using valves to blast invaders with pressurized hot steam was more than half the fun in DF.
Tbf there is the z levels mod, but yeah it absolutely doesn't let you do that unfortunately
