More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

So hot... My living room is now up to 25c, was 23 this morning as I am struggling to cool it much overnight.
Can't open the windows much as our cat is an indoor cat. Had an idea to put a fan in the room to pull air in through the barely open living room window and push it out through the back of the house, back window open slightly and bathroom/kitchen windows open more but behind closed doors.
Keeps the cat safely in the living room/back room and hopefully will reduce the temperature more tonight. Not the strongest of fans but overnight does give it a lot of time to work with and it's only small openings.
Going to look like a shill lol. I bought some of these a few years back:

Really helps with keeping the cats in and a draft flowing in the summer.
What is it made of? We have net curtains that he likes to use as a climbing frame and often get ripped after a while with holes more than big enough for him to fit through. He gets told off but still does it, on some windows more than others.
If you don't have or want to get some sort of air conditioning, maybe obtain and stick a window screen on the window, then have the fan blow through that?
Not as common in the UK
here in the US, they were necessary to deal with malaria back before that got eradicated and kinda stayed for the convenience
but it looks like there are UK-based vendors, manufacturers, and installers, and that they're often called "fly screens" rather than "window screens".
You could even use something with larger-diameter holes, like chicken wire, if all you care about is the cat, but I figure that if you're going to go to the trouble of putting something up, might as well block insects too.
Would need to be a fairly cat proof material, the chicken wire does that pretty well. But need to be able to open/close the window behind it too so need to find a decent option for fitting it there. Sticky back velcro is a tempting option.
easy as fuck to make temp screens. simple wood frame with camping mosquito net stretched across then stapled to the frame.
i made mine this way.
