All I see is the thin facade being ripped away from a world where we thought we were making progress that clearly hadn't actually happened. We thought things were on the up and up because our overlords allowed us to have some positive change for a while, as a treat.

Maybe now that we know it was all a joke at our expense we can fight to make some real progress for ourselves, instead of claiming that we already succeeded in winning safety for the marginalized because some companies changed their logos for 30 days every year.

The only people who actually thought progress was being made were functionally blind and children. Too ignorant of the world and too obstinate to listen to their elders.

The elder queers, those who did listen to them, or those with critical thinking skills who weren't terminally online. Have been screaming from the roof tops that pride month and the corporatization of queer culture for the purpose of PR and marketing was bad for everyone.

But those loud idiots would scream and bitch. Claimed we where being haters, sexist and bigots. When we where just trying to stop people from selling out their own communities for lies.

To try to get them to push their time and effort into real projects and their real communities.

But they rather have a 14.99 rainbow flag in call of duty, or a shiny sparkly effect on discord.

There has definitely been progress made. The majority of people believe non straight/cis people should be free to live their lives as they wish. There's just an incredibly vocal group currently, who are so vocal because they're losing.

What the corporations are doing doesn't really matter. They're just trying to make a profit, and currently that means, often, bowing down to our weird narcissistic president.

Often it's two steps forward one step back

I'll take the facade over the reality. I'm not gay but I'm not stupid enough to think that it'll stop with lgbt peoples.

You can't not take reality. You either take reality as it is, or take it with a blindfold on, pretending it makes you safer. One gives you the opportunity to change reality as much as you can, which granted isn't much for one person on their own, but the other only lets you stumble around in the dark, so I know which one I'll take.

True but you don't have to take that part of reality all day every day.

As you can see by some of the target unhinged ramblings I post, somewhere in between is the happiest. Keep touch with reality but don't live in it.

I agree that you don't have to be actively aware of all aspects of reality at all times, but my point was that we do live in reality. That's inescapable - even when we're asleep reality continues on around us and including us. We're inseparable from it.
