Even better, you won't need "hacks" to enable "speed."
It won't. There countless amount of benchmark proofs at this point, you free to check them out.
There like, 2 or 3 scenarios where linux actually faster and/or gives more FPS in games in all other cases it's either on par, or worse than windows.
But, you free to cope.
The mentioned "fix" got nothing to do with games.
Commenter below arguing it is about games, why can't I use same point?
This isn't about gaming, where Linux has all kinds of disadvantages on the software side.
This is about OS performance, where Linux is just objectively lighter than Windows.
This simply isn’t an option for large number of people.
For work computers maybe, but this is PCMR - we're probably here for gaming, and these days Linux is actually better in many ways.
My work actually can't be done on windows :), *NIX only.
My work can't be done on linux (company uses ms ecosystem on purpose, even RDP can't be connected from linux), what exactly your point?
Even depends on what kind of work
Besides graphic suites, where Adobe still holds strong, and some specific stubborn companies only pushing windows tools to configure some hardware, I don't see that many work related things being a problem.
Most stuff is office, mail and else often just browser based stuff
We're getting more and more into niche territory, where Linux can't keep up - and even there, it's not Linux' fault
I say, we have a golden year of the Linux desktop ahead of us!!!
And I should know, I keep telling that since 20 years ;-)

Point being that you can't say Linux is better for VR if you can't currently buy a headset that works well on Linux
I never said Linux is better. I was just countering your implication that VR on Linux doesn't work.
Well I wasn't talking to you; the comment I originally replied to literally said Linux performance is better.
In many ways. They said "Linux is probably better now in many ways". Not all.
