What I said is that they have been groomed and gaslit until they no longer see life as life. The alternative is accepting what they're doing is wrong. In order to keep this delusion up they resort to greater and greater acts. In The Wretched of the Earth Fanon describes interviews with colonial torturers. These people knew what they were doing was wrong, it actively bothered them and haunted their dreams. So what did they do? They doubled down. Because they believed that nobody would torture a human, and therefore these must not be humans.

I used to work at a slaughterhouse. There were three kinds of people who worked there: The ones who quit, the ones who broke, and the ones who embraced it.
