Today’s game is Oxygen not Included. I hate a long day today and wanted something simplish to relax. That’s this.
I usually don’t get to get very far in this because the after mentioned simpleness can sometimes backfire and actually make it fairly hard. But despite that this I usually have a great time in this game.
One of the first things I set out to do on this save was make a water pump. Easy enough. I hit a roadblock though where I need to dig for it due to the nearest thing of water being underground.
This resulted in the second issue: There’s no oxygen down there. That means my workers will have to make repeat trips down there to dig, build the ladder, and climb up.
Once I got that out of the way, I started on the second part of my go to plan for this game: Tunneling to the top of the map for Solar Panels.
Admittedly this is probably where all my playthroughs fall apart. As all my little guys end up dying before I get there. And I’m not sure how to make enough oxygen and food to keep them alive. I’ll get there soon one day. I’m determined.
Anyways. I just wanted to make a brief detour and break that I thought would be a nice break. I would have actually done Jedi Survivor but I was about to crash and fall asleep for the first time in a long while, so this is a much appreciated break.
I love this game, but I hate that the technical implementation is so bad that you have to factor cpu performance into pretty much every system you design. Half the forum posts about base design boil down to 'Don't do this, because it'll kill your FPS'. And one of the most popular mods optimises performance so your game gets faster. You know it's bad when mods increase your FPS instead of tanking it!

Ah. That’s probably where I’m going wrong with my oxygen lmao. I try to over design it with a contraption that takes the CO2 from the coal farm, pumps it into an air tight room, then processes that into oxygen again and pumps that throughout my building. I’ll definitely try your suggestion next time. Maybe I’ll get further
By coal farm, do you mean a hatch ranch?
Yeah, don't overthink it at the start. A single electrolyser just above your base, with a CO2 skimmer at the deepest part of your mining tunnels and a pump to remove H2 at the highest point, both manually activated, will last you a couple hundred cycles at least. Automate the skimmer, pump, and coal generator once you can to make your life easier. Then you have lots of time to focus on overengineering your life support systems while your dupes die of heatstroke :)
