Sure it's been worth it, the US has weakened Russia at a relatively low cost (other than for the Ukrainians).
Have they really though? Can you really "weaken" a nuclear power?
Embarrass, yes. Cause a loss of prestige? Of course, but they're still a nuclear power and that's never going to change.
Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union, in the 90s they still had a seat at the table in the UN security council and had a say in their sphere of influence. They still had a sphere of influence.
