The conservative movement and their party are just full of very weird people.

What is the real concern here, supposedly? That people travel here just to have babies? How many people actually do that, and what actual problems does it cause?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They're racists, dude. It's that simple.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Right. I'd like to see the right wing try to explain their position without tipping their hand.

Whoah now, you're asking conservatives to actually think before they act? Blasphemy. You should just have faith they know what's best 😇

I've seen people comment (possibly sarcastically) that it's a problem because illegal immigrants can just come in and have a baby and they'll be eligible to be president in 35 years. As if becoming president is an easy thing just anyone can do.....oh

Seriously though, I don't see an issue with someone born to non-citizens becoming president if they've lived in the country all their lives and are able to get the support from voters. Why does it matter who their parents were?

People do travel here to have their babies so the baby can have u.s. citizenship. I can not give you a number off the top of my head but….

https://cis.org/Richwine/Births-Illegal-Immigrants-and-LongTerm-Temporary-Visitors

Assuming that births to illegal immigrants as a proportion of births to all noncitizens has held roughly constant since our last report, we estimate that there were 225,000 to 250,000 births to illegal immigrants in 2023, amounting to close to 7 percent of births in the U.S. We will revise these numbers as we obtain more data.

And the pew research center has it at 9%

But these numbers are for all illegal immigrants not people who travel here specifically to have there kid born here. But the number isn’t 0. Now the problem it causes is……. I don’t have one.

If you don't have a problem with it, why go through the effort to do the work for the people who do?

[–] facelessbs@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

There was a question and I answered. No real work was done
