Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

Shows why China needs better soft power. US can do everything worse than what China has ever done and you’ll still have people whining about social credit and Chinese lack of freedom

China

soft power

Going to post my standard response to this topic:

That's some good soft power. Who wants a bear hug?

pandas are an actual china soft power policy. china sends pandas to zoos around the world as a sign of friendship.

Yes, that's the point I'm making. Along with a play on "soft power" and baby animals tending to be literally soft, fluffy, and hug shaped.

It's unfair how adorable that panda is. No country could resist that

Bears have no right to be as cute as they are. If I'm not supposed to snuggle the bear cubs, then the bear cubs shouldn't be so cuddle shaped and made of fluffy.

I want more bear cubs demanding cuddles than can actually fit in my lap... those look so snuggly. Hell, even one bear cub to hug would be so neat.

If the Soviet Union had figured out how to use Siberian grizzlies as literal soft power, maybe we'd have gotten the good ending to the Cold War... these lil guys are so damn hug shaped. If bears not for bear hugs, bears shouldn't be made of cute.

Ooooh... the hexagonal bear! That's a lotta bear to hug! Fluffy! If bear not for big hug, why bear so big and made of fluffy?

regardless of the strength of chinas soft power it would be wasted on americans. the people here are by and large beyond converting

not possible. CIA controls all media not just in the US, but all "allied" countries. However, if I were in charge of PR/psychological operations in China I would create a website with official debunks of anti-China propaganda. Have it all in one place. There's so much stuff that can only be found on places like /r/sino or some obscure local Chinese gov website.
