Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“I’m saying it right now,” Homan said. “There’s still going to be more bloodshed unless they shut their mouth and let ICE enforce the laws that they enacted.”

DHS has acknowledged that neither of the men who have been shot in recent weeks was the target of the ICE operations that led to their deaths.

A witness reported that Guerrero shouted, “I tried to stop” after being shot by an agent while his vehicle moved forward slowly.

Hey Americans, your precious second amendment? It’s for shit like this.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 11 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Turns out all the loud card carrying 2A enthusiasts are coward bitches who were just waiting for some fascist dick to suck.

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

If we're honest, that was always painfully obvious.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

No. It’s for the government to conscript citizens to murder tax cheats.

See Shay’s Rebellion and The Whisky Rebellion.

2A is for chumps.

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

You know what, let's just go to the source:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

One whole sentence.

Which is why there's an entire field of U.S. law called constitutional law, and why the Supreme Court's primary role is to decide constitutional questions.

That also means we can infer the Constitution doesn't specify every type of weapon people should be allowed to own. For example, it obviously doesn't say that citizens should be able to possess intercontinental ballistic missiles.

What it does mention is "a well-regulated militia." I think that's the more important part of the Second Amendment, even though most people focus almost exclusively on "the right to keep and bear arms."

A free state can, technically, maintain its own military. That context is often overlooked in modern discussions of the amendment.

I feel the same. I've tried that angle with gun nuts before. They focus on 'militia' and infer that since the founders understood 'militia' to mean any able-bodied (white, free, man) that would answer the call to defend the territory, that same must hold true today. They also take "well regulated" to mean 'hunter's safety', 'handgun registration', 'serial numbers', and 'hunting licenses'.

The mental gymnastics put Thomas and the other Reich members on the SC to shame. (not really)

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 13 points 17 hours ago (4 children)

Yep. Sure would be nice if the non-fascist party hadn't didn't decades convincing their supporters that guns are evil and disarming themselves.

[–] auntieclokwise@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

Some of us are quite well armed. There's a saying: if you go far enough left, you get your guns back. There's lots of gun clubs, all across the country, that are left wing. See Pink Pistols and the John Brown Gun Club.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 30 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Sure would be nice if all the "we need guns to protect our freedoms from tyranny" people hadn't joined ICE to enforce tyranny at the first opportunity.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 13 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (2 children)

All of this can be true. I'm exceedingly pissed at how the vocal anti-fed 2A crowd was talking all tough, and now they're licking the heels of the feds as those agencies literally carry out all the conspiracies we were supposed to need that 2A for.

If Tyranny == Law:
Rebellion == Duty

???

Something like that?

Ugh. What a bunch of cowards.

Edit: I'm not even advocating violence. Where's all the peaceful open-carrying protests? That'd at least be a start towards a polite society.

Thugs in unmarked vans with masks would be a lot more hesitant to beat on civilians with 50 legally carried rifles in the vicinity. Jussayin.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago

I keep floating the idea that everyone should show up to vote while open carrying.

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Thomas Jefferson

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Nah. That never happened.

They simply advocated for stricter background checks and a ban on the type of firearms expressly designed to kill as many people (children) as quickly as possible.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 6 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

You can get one now and you should, everyone should, that much is clear now to everyone.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

I have over 50 guns. Collecting firearms was a hobby for a while.

I haven't bought one in years, but I used to get like 1 a month.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 hours ago

Cool, come watch my special needs son while I go guillotining? I'll bring my rifle.
