I started doing crunches/sit ups every night before bed about 3 months ago to try to cut back on the bowling ball I've been smuggling in my shirt for the past 15 years which started with the heavy drinking I used to do. I haven't drank in almost 8 years now, and while I can feel the difference in muscle tightness around my stomach now, it doesn't seem to be having much effect on shrinking the bowling ball which is somewhat disappointing.
My partner and I typically go for at least a mile walk just about every day too so that helps a little I hope.
I still feel good about doing something rather than the nothing I've done most of the rest of my life.
I was thinking about seeing how much the gym down the road charges per month, but I've never been in a gym in my life, and I don't know if it would just be a waste of money or not.
That's great! IMO, doing it together is the way to go for any exercise.
I'm way more fond of other exercises, like walking, swimming, pilates... Personally, I see the gym as a sort of bitter medicine that I have to make taste better. I got some earbuds with noise cancellation, looked up the times with less flux of people etc. Making this thread is part of this too haha.
as much as I hate reddit, I do have to credit the /r/stopdrinking subreddit with REALLY helping me quit drinking.. just saying things out loud and keeping track of how many days i'd gone without, and also reading stories of other folks who were struggling or had done it, truly did help me quit once and for all. There is definitely something to what you're doing here.. publicly announcing your intentions and holding yourself accountable. I think you're doing a good thing!
