Damn this quote is so vapid and useless. Yeah duh if you say something nobody agrees with people might hate you, even if you're right and they're wrong. Funnily that applies a lot more to pro-AES communists than any libertarian tendencies (the ones Orwell was part of) because we do actually get hate as a result of cold war propaganda. I wouldn't be ranting about this if it was a poetic way of saying something obvious, but he just stated it in the sandpaper dry way you'd expect from a dissertation, like if it was really complex and needed to be put simply.
