Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I imagine the cause for the idiocy is because the NIH began funding gain of function research on bat corona viruses (Covid) at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in 2014... when Obama was President. And they did that while placing a halt on most US government lab research in the same direction because there had been biohazard incidents and the safety was in question.
It's a stupid game, because it's a type of research that had been going on with various diseases in various labs for many years before this, but Trump has some weird insanity relating to Obama and trying to force Fauci to say something that they could use to reveal US involvement in the origin of Covid and pin it on Obama and Democrats... eh. Not super surprised.
a bigger deal was trump killed funding for people who specifically looked for viruses jumping into farm animals in china. he of course thought why are we paying to do this when china should. Similar to how they stopped paying to innoculation cattle south of us so screw worm would not creep up here. The last person in that program left in something like october of 2019. I mean he could not have screwed up worse if he was trying to.

I'm giving my best guess at the reasons behind the current administration trying to grill Fauci at this given point in time. The NIH funding for WIV to research GoF in bat corona viruses started in a year Obama happened to be President. Trump has some irrational (likely partly racist) hatred of Obama. The Midterms are coming up, and looking very bad for Republicans.
It seems reasonable that Trump or shitsack Miller or someone else in his Inner Circle of Evil Twats is trying to use this as another potential way to stir up shit or at least try to throw more shit at Democrats, before the election. That isn't saying I think Democrats deserve any of that shit. But even Maga fuckwits are starting to lose confidence and trust in Trump, and they're very stupid, so if they could get Fauci to say slip up in front of cameras and the Senate in a way that let them start screaming "OBAMA MADE COVID!" the majority of the morons who might have been slipping off the idiot train back into reality and rational thought would likely believe it enough to vote the hard R again.

Ahh, nah you're right. That comment of mine had 6 downvotes, and something else trying to explain had 20+ with zero upvotes because it seems people saw lots of words, skimmed, and assumed I must be agreeing that Fauci is the devil 'cause Trump said so.
