Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

What he's saying: Paul has an "unhinged obsession with me," and his motive for the hearing is to "get me to say something — anything — that could vindicate his repeated public pledges that I end up, in his words, quote, behind bars unquote," Fauci said.

"Although it pains me to do so … under the advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions," Fauci said.

[–] KulunkelBoom@lemmus.org 5 points 17 hours ago

Senate panel's BULLSHIT witch hunt questions.

[–] Rusticus@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Let’s talk more about the child raping rather than this sideshow bullshit.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago

this is the distraction they needed from the files.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 64 points 1 day ago (3 children)

If they had something he'd be charged. This is a fishing expedition, hoping an 85 year old might slip up and say something that they can frame as incriminating.

[–] 8oow3291d@feddit.dk 26 points 1 day ago

Biden gave Fauci a full preemptive pardon. Because everybody knew that Republicans would go after Fauci on made up bullshit.

Fauci dedicated his life to saving other peoples' lives. Republicans are evil.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wow, he looks pretty good for 85 and all the shit he's been through. Compare that face to all the other >=75 year-olds in DC politics.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

thats what happens when you are constantly stressed and sold your soul, your meatsuit rots from the outside in.

[–] DERRALEXANO@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

them throwing out his attorney for saying he has rights is just wow.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They what?!

Why am I even shocked anymore.

Welcome to Temu fascism everyone...

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 43 points 1 day ago (3 children)

yeah it was wild. rand paul was telling him he does not have the right not to answer and faucis attorney said he did and rand goes nuts saying he had no right to speak only fauci should speak and calling the guards to throw him out and he was. wtf! which goes to show that libertarians have full on linked themselves to maga just like republicans.

[–] quarkquasar@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I always assumed libertarians were people who didn't want to call themselves republicans because republicans didn't lean into pedophilia hard enough for them.

[–] NotEasyBeingGreen@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago

In the USA, libertarianism was invented after the New Deal in order to allow monopolies and other capital accumulation to occur without government interference.

In 1946, Leonard E. Read founded the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE), an American nonprofit, conservative educational organization which promotes the principles of laissez-faire economics, private property and limited government. According to Gary North, the FEE is the "granddaddy of all libertarian organizations".

They were the crazies even before the maga crazies.

[–] nickiwest@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Rand Paul says perfectly reasonable things about 25% of the time, and the rest is batshit crazy. There is no middle ground.

I think it’s because fauci was presidently pardoned and that changes the rules since technically you can’t go to jail for what they’re questioning on so he doesn’t need to plead the 5th. But I assume he didn’t want to open doors to other shit

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

except they keep saying he should be prosecuted. Their own retorict changes the rules again. Oh also they just ignore and violate the law including the constitution on a regular basis.

[–] Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just read the rule, he did the right thing by pleading the 5th since if he answers it can lead him to incriminating himself and in this case they were over reaching, go figure

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Then threatened to hurt him for not answering questions. This is a real witch hunt.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why not? Anytime the republicans get questioned they same the same thing, or, “I cant remember.”

They never answer the question.

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 0 points 12 hours ago

Or if you're Gym Jordan, you just ignore the subpoena. And get rewarded for doing so.

[–] quarkquasar@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They usually flip out like screaming shit-gibbons who just got goosed.

[–] godsammitdam@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

The DOW is over 50,000. Don't you DARE accuse me of a crime.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 236 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It’s frustrating, but an entirely correct response from Fauci, because this isn’t and was never about facts or data or science at all. The hearing is political kabuki of the absolute dumbest variety.

[–] Keilik@lemmy.world 69 points 2 days ago (7 children)

I can’t wait for the headlines that take this as an admission of guilt and confirmation of all those stupid conspiracy theories

Those headlines are already out. Idiots like Rand Paul are already saying it.

I had to turn one clip off because some idiot from Florida kept bragging about how her state was the state of freedom and how the federal government came in and opposed totalitarian restrictions.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 49 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ah, so that means all the times orangeboi did the same thing it was also an admission of guilt, right? Because that is the correct response to such an unrepentantly imbecilic line of logic.

But to be clear, orangeboi 100% did rape underage girls, amongst a whole fuckload of other heinous things.

[–] Ooops@feddit.org 23 points 2 days ago

Because that is the correct response

Only if you apply logic, which these cultists neither do nor accept from others.

[–] paranoid@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I saw a reel where Hawley said "nothing says honesty like taking the fifth, hey doc"? And then stared at Fauci like he just got owned, not realizing he looks like a moron for saying that.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sadly, its all pretty meaningless.

There's three types of people, those who understand public health measures, those who hate fauci, and those who don't know or care about either.

Fauci taking the 5th won't move anyone between any of those categories, even with the headlines.

It's extremely pragmatic and not at all politically convenient, which is exactly what I'd expect from Fauci.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 30 points 1 day ago (6 children)

I have said it before and I will say it again. The reublican party as a whole has to go. I get the problems with the democrats but we need to make a new floor for crappiness which the dems are perfect for. They can split or a third party comes up or both but its not going to happen until the republicans cannot win anywhere close to a majority.

This is like the McCarthy hearings, that also targeted civil servants. Except this time it is everybody that doesn't kiss the ring.
Absolutely crazy, absolutely without reason, USA is a shitty country, and nobody is doing anything!
The logical result of electing an obvious malignant narcissist, and the American people went ahead and did it anyway.
USA as a country and society has gone insane.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (10 children)

I gotta wonder if there were as sizable a group of Americans that were skeptical of McCarthyism as there is, currently, of Trump's witch hunt.

Arthur Millers estate should release a special edition of The Crucible, dedicated to Trump.

Everyone's just glossing over the personal diary bit. How the hell does a Congress member get someones personal diary?

[–] AmbientDread@piefed.social 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is the same bunch that whined about a court order that gave a Special Council access to their seditious text messages. Despicable and deplorable invasions of privacy for all exept themselves.

Thank you again Dr. Fauci. This time for giving the big middle finger to this Rapeublican Kabuki Theatre.

A pandemic embarrasses an entire political party and confirms their inability to do anything other than blame minorities. Since they can't blame the virus for their failures, they blame the closest thing to a virus - the scientific community that was focused on saving American lives.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The 5th is a great right, glad we have it
