They domesticated us. I love dogs too, but they're all about having been shaped and molded by humans, even physically.
Cats though? They've barely changed in a few hundred thousand years and they do whatever they fucking want. I can't not have mad respect for that.
In the game Dwarf Fortress, Dwarves can have pets. Dogs, for example, can be assigned to particular dwarves. This isn't possible for cats, who choose a dwarf. I think this is also reflected in the info box for the animal too, e.g. "[Cat] is the owner of [Dwarf]", and "[Dog] belongs to [Dwarf]"
It's easy to tell that Tarn Adams (the main developer) is a cat person.
