Holy fucking shit, this is 27 dimensional chess. Hear me out.
OpenAI has a deal with Microsoft under which they pay MS 20% of top line revenue from their current products and MS owns the rights to all their models and IP.
However, there is a stipulation that if OpenAI develops some form of AGI, Microsoft has no rights to that product or revenue.
AGI is defined as machine intelligence that can match or surpass human intelligence in all economically viable tasks. Now, we know that LLMs are total dog shit and will never raise themselves up to the current level of human intelligence, but what if instead of raising the bar for machine intelligence we lower the bar for human intelligence.
Enter: Infant YouTube AI slop to slowly make the human race stupid enough to qualify GPT 25 as AGI, thus granting OpenAI and Sam Altman full ownership and profitability. It's a long play but as we all know the markets can stay irrational for longer than you can stay solvent.
well no it's only gonna take a couple of generations surely. saltman can cash in his check when he's 130
that strategy takes at least 20 years to pay off. if OpenAI can't become profitable before the depreciation of the GPUs hit in 3-4 years it's probably gonna go bust or at least investors won't shove their money into it.
