What, like She-Hulk or Wanda?

Imperfections are hardly a new theme for female superheroes.

You know those are super recent right?

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

I mean, if we're going off a geological time frame, sure. But Age of Ultron came out ten years ago (Wanda's introduction) and She-Hulk is at least a few years old at this point.

Which is just their MCU variants, there've been flawed female superheroes in other media for a long time. Definitely nowhere near a new concept.

Maybe it's a new concept for him, considering what he turned Gamora into? Hard to say.

"Finally" implies he thinks he is the very first to do it.

Is it weird that James Gunn picked an actress that could be the sister of the actor he cast for Adam Warlock?

"Finally" implies he thinks he is the very first to do it.

No it doesn't. It can also mean that, given those other projects, he feels he's also able to have a flawed woman character...

Added Gunn from the stage. “So many times female superheroes are so perfect. She’s not that at all.”

He specifically refers to female superheroes being forced to be perfect.

Right. Up until very recently...

Yeah! They could have used Ripley or Pretty Woman as a better example.

I don't know of any other Supergirl movies so...

There's also the supergirl from the flash movie.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I pray nobody knew about that.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Well, yeah, when their marketing team makes a schpiel about a character having largely been interpreted as a "good girl" when their own studio has just made an interpretation that was dark and damaged... they'd probably want people to forget about it.

I mean, it's all PR bullshit anyway, the quality isn't going to be determined by how unique the interpretation is... just on how good the interpretation is. I think there's a good chance it will be well done... but until it's released to a wider audience, there's no legitimate way to know.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world -1 points 3 weeks ago

So who's been keeping her from being this way if this is the first interpretation, in your estimation?
