It's a problem with Lemmy-UI; try using an alternate frontend. This one, for instance: https://alexandrite.app/hexbear.net
It happens to me intermittently but usually resolves itself fairly quickly, it's odd that it's persisted for you.
Backend stronk made by sigma backend devs. Frontend weak make gateway bad made by cringe frontend devs.
Thank you, it seems to be working for me at the moment
but I will keep that saved. Is logging into that site safe, do we know who runs it?
Alexandrite is run by a "software engineer from Minnesota" who goes by sheodox (personal site, Mastodon, Pixelfed, Github). You can find the source code here. I have logged into Alexandrite without issue before and interacted with the owner to boot. I won't say that he has the best politics — he strikes me as a liberal-progressive type — but I don't think he's any sort of malicious anti-communist or anything, more just a politically incoherent average Joe.
Alternate frontends for Lemmy will be safe to log into as a rule, as they're generally FOSS and Lemmy is such a niche platform that there isn't really much of a point in harvesting people's login credentials anyways. Still, it is a good idea to be cautious.
