but I will keep that saved. Is logging into that site safe, do we know who runs it?
Alexandrite is run by a "software engineer from Minnesota" who goes by sheodox (personal site, Mastodon, Pixelfed, Github). You can find the source code here. I have logged into Alexandrite without issue before and interacted with the owner to boot. I won't say that he has the best politics — he strikes me as a liberal-progressive type — but I don't think he's any sort of malicious anti-communist or anything, more just a politically incoherent average Joe.
Alternate frontends for Lemmy will be safe to log into as a rule, as they're generally FOSS and Lemmy is such a niche platform that there isn't really much of a point in harvesting people's login credentials anyways. Still, it is a good idea to be cautious.
