Did people spend this year getting shallower, meaner and stupider or am I losing it?

Did people spend this year getting [...] stupider

covid-cool

I'm just going to leave this here for those who haven't seen it: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0889159125004805

in-utero COVID-19 exposure

This would only apply to children under 6 (so far)

The transition of AmeriKKKans to primitive hominids will be complete within a generation

[–] CountryBreakfast@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Can we cut this out? Your language indicates an ontology that sits a mere standard deviation from any run of the mill fascist

[–] juniper@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh please cry me a river. You can police my tone and language all you want but it changes nothing about the future.

[–] Shaleesh@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You coulda said that in so many other ways but you picked the one that would have made you at home at a race science convention. When called out for it you doubled down and gleefully expressed hopelessness at the future.

This says a lot about you.

It’s been a slow burn since COVID at the very least.

One of the defining reasons I’ve become so disillusioned with humanity.

Seeing how little people actually value human life during covid kind of broke me

[–] moss_icon@hexbear.net 36 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I watched my own family nearly kill an elderly relative of mine due to their own selfishness during COVID and then act like I was the problem for refusing to let it go.

I just feel empty inside at this point.

touch grass

Here's another excellent reason for disillusionment you have identified. People think if you just go outside you will be cured of anything at all, and they will recite this nonsense to you without fail. No one is allowed to experience social and political alienation because that is somehow a crime against collectivism.

But it isn't. These things are necessary to admit to move forward. The very infrastructure you would put others down for not valuing and not accessing does not exist.

They have, that's why they've lost hope in humanity...

[–] CountryBreakfast@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

There are a lot of people that seem to be in denial of the severity of our situation and offer no substance in the face of hopeless. Yet they think they can motivate people to disbelieve their own experiences in favor of comforting the malformed sensibilities of denial.

I go to the gym several times a week and go on walks daily.

Almost like touching grass doesn’t change how fucked humanity is.

[–] CountryBreakfast@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 months ago

And to go further, I also am not always hiding away. I have to interview people and meet with people and correspond with people for my work and studies. It has only broken me down more, especially since everyone is just trying to carry on as if things will just calm down.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 18 points 2 months ago

This is how its always been.

Sure, something something everyone twelve. But going through the hell of k-12 Ohio public schools and watching things fold online, none of this is new.

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

It’s been getting worse and worse over the years for a while now
