First I've heard that, where did that come from? I've also heard "devout Christian," but that seems to come and go. Probably not a lot of "queer devout Christians" out there.
I'd like to know who she actually was. Her second husband died, so she doesn't seem to be gay, but what to do I know?
All this bullshit is irrelevant. They shot one of us. In cold blood. Just for being there when they were carrying out their illegal operations. We are all next.
No, we have to humanize her, that's what makes the normally apathetic wake up. They want to define her as a monster, and dehumanize her, so they can rationalize and excuse murdering her.
We have to remind everybody, especially MAGAs, that she was exactly like them, a mom of 3, a Christian, a widow, etc. When people see that she isn't the monster they claim, they start to realize who the real monsters are.
We have seen over and over that Conservatives will shift their opinion when it hits their own life. Dick Cheney, as conservative as any Fascist Nazi, was extremely gay-friendly because he had a gay daughter whom he loved. He could bomb the shit out of foreign brown people because they aren't real to hom, but he supported gay rights, because gay people were real to him.
When we get MAGAs to see others as fellow humans, it makes a difference to many. Not all, many MAGAs are unsalvageable psychopaths, but some will respond to this. We have to keep whittling away at their approval ratings, and humanizing their victims is an enormous help.
Right... Unfortunately that's why they're calling her queer 😬
I get what you're saying, but that's exactly the opposite of what the media is doing. They are telling the public she wasn't like them. That she wasn't Christian, she was a liberal rioter with three children by two men and her lesbian lover beside her in the car when she was out maliciously running over law enforcement in her SUV. Bootlicking Maga chuds with hot jelly in their skulls don't need much to know a person was evil and deserved to be put down, and so for headlines like this the writers know exactly what they're doing; boiling this woman's entire life into one word that shows she's Not Like Us^TM

Nuance on the word media, not specific to the publication posted here. The media is trying to dehumanize her by calling her queer because to the average MAGA queers are pedophiles wanting to destroy the nation with socialism

Cause it seems like right-wing outlets aren't focusing on her queerness. They're just calling her a terrorist. Or a "liberal communist," whatever that is (do they not realize communists hate liberals as much as magas do?)

I saw a very concerning statistic recently about literacy rates in america, and unfortunately it didn't even surprise me...
And of course the news and memorials about the queer woman one of their ilk murdered shouldn’t mention the fact she was queer, because that might make the MAGAs celebrate her death more than they did from the second they heard about it.
If you think this is better than the 90s era ‘don’t mention someone on our side is queer because it’ll make us look bad’ attitude, you are wrong.

Sorry for the misfire if you’re not actually against it. I have been seeing shitheads advocate against mentioning that she’s queer for that exact reason all day, and I’m really tired of it.
No problem I get it, as a gay man it would make me mad if they erased my queerness, but at this point we need to understand how the media manipulates all this to serve a narrative to the average US citizen (and you know who they voted for)
For us, yeah it is maddening to think queerness could dehumanize someone, for them it is just another minority to hate

Not wanting someone reduced down to just their sexuality is not shoving them back in the closet and I don't appreciate the insinuation that I'm prejudiced for calling it out.
You yourself are advocating for her sexuality not being mentioned at all! If you were trying to advocate for something else here, it absolutely doesn’t come across.
Queer people are constantly erased in death, by prejudiced family and media. Reconsider supporting or saying anything resembling that, such as by going ‘oh no why did the headline of a queer news site have to mention she was queer??’
I wasn't advocating anything, I was explaining why the news media plastering her sexuality in every headline is an attempt to dehumanize her and send a message to those both inside and outside the mentioned minority. I apologize if it came across to you as queer erasure, that was definitely not what I was going for, but I do understand now how that's how it could come across, so thank you for that.
Honestly thank you for being open to listening, I appreciate it especially since I came out the gate hot and sarcastic. It was coming from a place of reignited trauma, but it wasn’t good.
I’m of an age and from a place where that erasure and silencing in the media happened literally, to queer people around me. That being a national problem was a huge part of why queer newspapers exist to begin with, so acting like they shouldn’t be highlighting her queerness just brings all that up at once. It’s scary to think about how we’re heading back in that direction in a lot of ways.

Many, many more than you'd think. Plenty of denominations have no problem with queer people. Even the Catholic church has walked back a lot of their anti-queer messaging in the last decade.
