was gonna make a joke about bananas (the plant) being a rush – then got sidetracked and looked it up – bananas (genus Musa) are gingers (order Zingiberales) …
All respect but saying that is reductive and is like saying that rushes, sedges, and grasses are all grasses because they are in the order Poales.
Being in the ginger order does not make a plant a ginger. They all share basal synapomorphic traits yes, but the similarities end there. That's like saying peaches, breadfruit, and cannabis are all roses.
All eukaryotes look the same to me
