It'd be cool to be surprised by this, but I kinda think "curing" cancer is nearly a big a fantasy as AGI. What is there to cure? Cells being damaged? Treatment will continue to be refined, sure, but don't expect to ever see a panacea.

yeah "cancer" is a pattern of cellular behavior and the causes of it are myriad and depend on the type of cell that's fucking up.

there's almost certainly never going to be a generic cure or prevention for all cancers. maybe some scifi shit with human cloning and brain transplants but that's not fixing the cancer in the body that has it.
