Thats definetly not the case imo, it's just the predominance of smartphones in the daily life with social media usage, fear of missing out... People can get their phones out during any moment that not deeply engaging in the moveis just because they are used to pickup up their phones all time during the day.

I find that it's impossible to make movies that will engage or appeal to all audiences, and it's also impossible to make all movies that will have only great spectacularly engaging scenes... Having a couple of "boring" scenes does not make the movie a bad movie per se...

Bu yeah, making all movies "dumbed" down to explicitely state the plot over and over I see as a guarantee to reduce the movies quality over all.

Yeah even good movies can't compete with the instant stimulus of modern social media. Why focus for 5+ minutes to maybe get a large payoff when you can micro dose multiple payoffs per minute?

Some of the best movies I've seen are difficult to get through. But I have to consciously put away distractions and fucking meditate beforehand to even get through them nowadays lmao
