I am baffled that wrestling theater exists. It was cringe to me even as a young kid.

wrestling theatre (pro wrestling) is there for theatre kids who think theatre is too geeky for them but still like the acting and the showmanship. at least that's how i feel about it. I absolutely love how welcoming how pro wrestling is to the special needs crowd, so you'll get no criticism from me (until we start talking about the business end but i don't know enough to criticise properly. i'd need a minute).

I used to follow a guy on Tumblr who ended up watching a lot of daytime TV while recuperating from surgery.

He came to the conclusion that wrestling was essentially a soap opera designed to be socially acceptable for men to watch.

South Park did an episode on that.

Its definitely a soap opera but with some of the scratching clawing and punching that you only get 1 per 10 episodes of through the whole thing.

Bad over acting. Dramatic storylines. Murder, conspiracy and twins. Its absolutely ridiculous but I really like some of the people who have done clearly years of gymnastics to do their performance. Oh and caricature types like Boogs who looked like 1980s drag while shredding electric guitar.

Cringe and camp can be two sides of the same coin ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Pretty sure it's fun for the actors. I don't get watching it though.

It's a thing people like. Everyone knows it's staged,but it's fun.

With the masks, this seems to be Mexican Lucha libre, which can get quite crazy (like Jesus fighting midgets or something) and quite a spectacle to beholdin person. I would completely recommend you go see a show if you're ever in Mexico, great ambiance, greet fun

i wish i could get lucha libre on the tv.

wait fuck this is the internet i CAN get lucha libre on the tv. anyone got a good place to dive in?
