It also shows you that the market isn’t gonna shift naturally to electric cars.
I understand the decision if it didn’t make business sense for them, but I also think a change has to happen to protect our climate.
But then I’m not sure you have enough Lamborghinis on the road to account for a big part of it.
And let’s not forget that ditching ICE cars in favor of electric isn’t gonna improve anything if the global population keeps growing and we keep consumming more.
Thats just it.
Lambo sold 10,700 cars in 2025. An all time sales record. Toyota sold 10.3 million. Ferarri sold 13k, Vw/Audi sold 8.9 million, Aston Martin sold just under 6k, Ford sold 4.4 Million, Bugatti sold 136 cars, Stellantis sold 5.5 million cars, Koenigsegg sold 60 cars, GM sold 2.8 million. I know Lemmy hates flashy rich assholes and their toys but the really high end brands not leading the EV charge is seriously drop in the bucket territory.
Add all of those "prestige" brands together and they are barely 1% of what GM Alone put on the road.
Alos, Lamborghini owners don't drive their cars more than 1,000 miles a year. Because they are stupid cars.
You're not far off correct. Supercars average 3000 to 5000km a year, the average car averages 15k (very much ballbark numbers)and while they are an amazing toy and a hell of an experience to even ride in they are absolutely terrible "cars".
All indications point toward population leveling off at 10 billion, since so many countries are below replacement rate.
And while degrowth is a worthy goal, and replacing cars with public transport is far, far better than swapping all of them to EV's, it would still be better to replace all ICE cars with EV's environmentally speaking, as they would be polluting their local environments much less (poor air quality in cities kills thousands, and much if it is ICE cars), and they would also be contributing much less greenhouse gasses (though public transport would be an even bigger decrease).
Agreed!
If population levels off at 10 bilion, I just hope these 10 bilions will be people trying to manage our ressources in a responsible way.
