Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

The emergency being that a clear majority of Americans oppose electing Trump's Republican lackeys.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 20 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

seriously he has already said this. I never thought my democracy could so easily be swept aside growing up. Alls it takes is one treasonous party. thats it.

[–] mr_noxx@lemmy.ml 5 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Correction: All it takes is for enough apathy from the people to allow such treason to exist in the first place. You get what you give.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I do often wonder why more people are not protesting. streaming, video games, whatnot, only if no protest is going on when im free. I want to know I gave it my all in the end.

It's because injecting politics in unsanctioned spaces is uncool. You don't want to be uncool, do you?

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 5 hours ago

oh the cool ship sailed long ago for me.

What is frustrating is how much of a lift they got from the Murc's Law media and so many reactionary centrists.

Even now, they keep pretending as if all this just began with Pedonald. The Republicans have been signifying who and what they are for decades for anyone paying the least bit of attention and the willingness to look past bullshit artists like David Brooks.

I can't blame folks completely because I look at myself. Was always left of center but you know I never really got nixons administration till I was much older. Did not like reagan but particular republican canidates appeared and even showed enough sincerity and character to vote for over a democrat. I did not vote for bush senior but I mark him the best republican president of my lifetime just behind the worst democrat. They just kept getting worse and worse and once I learned more about nixon I realized how its been this declining direction but it was not till the millenium that that they became not an option regardless. Basicly for me they could be an option in the 80's (although on hindsite I just did not know better), then by late 90's it was like ok not an option on the federal leve and then as the millenium progressed it went down and down from state to local to like school board it being unacceptable. Now I see the whole party as just having to go. 100% completely. Conservatives need to go make a new party and get back to values beside lower taxes and regulation and eff everything else. Need to care about deficits and even raise taxes to be fiscally responsible and channel some roosevelt progressive conservatism and remember lincoln and having some basic decency. The gop and republican are poisoned names and philosophies at this point and even libertarians have failed to follow their ideals enough to take over.

Liberal democracy sides with fascism literally always. Read some fucking history.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

These type of bs coments are so annoying. Countries do not exclusively have treaties with other countries they like and the large majority of democracies can be said to be liberal democracies so its the type of thing that can be slanted to whatever the arguer wants.

[–] commie_rogers@lemmy.ml -3 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

Yes, now imagine how we feel, reading BS comments like yours... What a stupid thing to say.

Sorry, were we talking about fascist capture of state power?

Not sure what treaties have to do with it. Liberalism is not just an economic position, it has political dimensions as well.

In pretty much every historical example I'm aware of, liberals happily ceded to or collaborated with the fascist seizure of the state.

It's happening again and no one has ANY excuse to be surprised.

You sound a lot like someone who could benefit from reading Parenti's Blackshirts and Reds.

and the non liberal democracy examples are?
