I grew up in Cleveland, when Dennis Kucinich was on the rise. He was a great city councilmen, whose constituents truly loved him, but a terrible mayor of Cleveland, legendarily bad. It probably should have ended his political career, but he went on to be one of the few Congressmen who was on the extreme left at the time. Here he was talking about transgender in 2003, when most people hadn't even heard the term. Even John Stewart wasn't on board with the concept at the time.

He was well known to be absolutely incorruptible, and noisy, so he was run out of Congress when his district was specifically targeted by gerrymandering. He was well ahead of his time, he would have been a Congressional hero today.

I just remember him because my mom was a big green party supporter really liked him so he always seemed cool but I wasn't nearly as checked in to politics as I am today. Like I was going to protests against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan back then and working for local organizations to legalize weed but that was about it.
