Just because you can hear it doesn’t mean everyone can. Beeps are interruptive too.

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

my grandfather cant even hear the beeping, let alone if the microwave is running.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

Agreed that companies need to lower the note of their beeps to old-man hearing tones.

they make some devices that electrocute you when running and when they're done, stop.

This is comforting. Thank you.

And increasing beeping volume would be good. First beep should be nearly muted. 4th beep should be judging.

Also hum of a microwave is fairly easy to tune out.

My microwave has an option to turn off all the beeps, and it's a landlord special so I imagine others can do the same. Check your model and see if it has that option.

For mine, I literally need to hold down I think the number 3 for 5 seconds. It's in no way obvious.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Mine doesn't have any kind of mute option, I checked the manual.

Try holding down the "2″ or "3″ for 5–10 seconds.

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

I had one like that. I de-soldered the beeper lolfuckthat

[–] uniquethrowagay@feddit.org 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Appliances should never ever beep, change my mind. What happened to the good old "bing" or "brrrrrrring"?

Beeping makes my skin crawl!

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My ADHD brain can barely remember putting something in the microwave. I need the beep to remind myself to check it

[–] meekah@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 6 days ago

they're suggesting a different noise, not that it's supposed to be silent

[–] bleistift2@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 week ago

It’s probably way cheaper to add a speaker than an actual, physical bell. But I agree. My microwave dings and I’m fine with that.

Or make idk, a bamboo rod sound or something calming
