The gas price increases are what will doom Trump.
It’s where the consequences will finally hit his base and anyone who could possibly wake up will start to wake up. The more times they have to pay too high of gas prices the more wake up moments they will have.
Add to this the existing schism on the right with America first vs MAGA there are real angry racists over there that can peel MAGA out to their side. That’s not necessarily good, but the MAGA coalition is currently on a ticking clock towards total collapse.
What happens post Trump isn’t going to be all flowers and happy times, but it looks right now that the Trump plane is in a nose dive. Maybe they have time to pull up right now, but will they? Anybody’s guess.
It sucks that it takes gas prices. But I'd rather have someone do the right thing for the wrong reason than not at all.
I'm going to say its "energy prices in general" that will sink him. Gasoline is certainly one of the biggest ones. However, Americans are being squeezed on energy prices in all areas. This winter just ending has been pretty cold and natural gas prices have been higher. Electricity prices too with the double whammy of increased demand from data centers and the decline in supply. Supply is not keeping up because of trump's war on commercial solar and wind generation, and pissing off our wonderful neighbors to the north that have abundant electricity from hydropower for export.
Worse, consumers, hit with high home and car energy prices, will seek substitutions. Home PV solar and EVs are pretty good solutions to this. Then consumers will see that trump canceled PV solar and EV tax credits in his signature BBB.
In June we'll see the next auction rates for electricity generation. I think its going to be even worse than the last auction rates. With climate change increasing heat during the summers, we're going have months of eye-popping electricity bills at the retail level right as the November elections are getting underway.
Gas prices are special because they're plastered all over roadways, which is important for cognition if you struggle with object permanence.
I think for the subset of people who are left still on the Trump train, this is actually a material consideration.
Back when adults were running things, the children were slapping Biden "I did that" stickers on the pumps at gas stations when the prices weren't even nearly as bad as they are now.
They're so stupid, it's not longer a comedy; it now has become a tragedy. Their stupidity has now doomed most of the world, not just their own country. Selfish imbred fucking hillbillies.
At this point, I have to say any prediction of MAGA crumbling or in any way abandoning their Golden God is pretty bold, to put it mildly. In a normal world your prediction, along with any one of the many hundreds of other reasoned predictions, would have come to fruition. Alas, here we are.
So yeah, I’ll believe MAGA’s crumbling when I see it’s already happened, and not a second before.
ETA: Y’all are forgetting about one important thing in the MAGA mindset. It’s never Trump’s fault. It’s always the idiots around him, the Deep State, the Swamp, or BidenHilaryObamaDemocrats’ fault. I say that as a joke, but these people are literally (and I mean “literally”) brainwashed. They’re fed a narrative day in and day out, and they eat it right up only to regurgitate it to any libtard who dares question the supreme being. Seriously, go read about the farmers who lost their farms but would still happily vote for the reason they lost their farms. Look at the bit I highlighted from the poll about trusting Republicans more with the economy (the ones who are in the process of exploding the deficit again)! None of that even makes a dent with these voters.
