I don't know about Chinese, but in Russian it's called a fatherland. So either it's yaoi, or at least one of the girls is bigender or a he/him lesbian or something.
Always thought Russia was a motherland. Isn’t the big statue called ‘The Motherland Calls’ or is that just how it’s translated into English.
It's called "{Родина|Rodina}-{мать|mat'} {зовёт|zovyot}!" Родина being feminine and meaning homeland, мать meaning mother

„Отчизна” and „отечество” come from „оте́ц”, meaning father, hence fatherland. „Родина” comes from „род”, meaning family or kin (technically both come from Proto-Slavic or whatever). None of those are mother-related.
„Родина-мать” is a personification.
