An overproduction crisis is a recurring phenomenon in capitalist economies, where more goods and services are produced than consumers can buy with their available income (and thus supply exceeds effective demand). This mismatch leads to unsold inventory, falling prices, reduced profits, layoffs, and sometimes even economic recessions. It highlights a structural imbalance, as production may grow faster than the market’s ability to absorb what is produced.
