A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Remember when Musk said he was working on saving all those people, but then someone else actually did it instead of just trying to show off on Twitter, so Musk baselessly called him a pedophile? You know, like a normal well-adjusted human.
I mean saying our politicians are bastards is always right but if he starts calling them pedos he might actually be arrested as thats legitimately illigal without proof.
Except he did, and he somehow won the case in court?
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-50695593
JDart? Wtf he was even emailing BuzzFeed journalists after the event making the same claim. Goes to show you you can put the finger on the scale of justice if you have globs of money.
Yes, absolutely absurd how he could win that case. There could never be any doubt on guilt, only the amount he should pay in compensation. It's disgusting how money can get you out of trouble.
Looks absolutely open and shut. Amazing.
"Your honor, I'd like it to go on record that opposing counsel fucked their mother"
Im literally saying our politicians, as in Germany...
USA will not arrest Musk on a matter of Slander in Germany.
Slander and libel are civil suits, it needs to be criminal acts to get him arrested in a foreign country.
And even then it wouldn't work, when apparently he can somehow pay his way out.
So whatever you were "literally" trying to say, it doesn't really work that way.
I hate current Elon behaviour too but I don't think Musk's reaction was completely "baseless", pretty sure the diver guy was the one that started the fight, insulting the submarine tesla's engineers made.
Calling him a pedo is a bit too extreme though
I mean, I can call all Tesla cars stupid, all SpaceX rockets garbage, .. doesn't mean Elon gets to insult me personally all of a sudden, does it?
It was a ridiculous submarine that could not have worked. There's a massive difference between an expert commenting on amateurish nonsense and a libellous playground taunt.
Revealing though. Every right-wing accusation is a confession.
I'd like to summarize your comment: I wouldn't call his comment baseless except that it had no basis.
He wasn't insulting the submarine itself, because it had not been built. It did not even exist in a conceptual state beyond Musk's imagination. The diver was criticizing the idea of using a submarine itself, considering the cave that those kids were stuck in had an opening just barely large enough for a full grown adult to slip through. It was, and still is to this day, the worst solution anybody could have proposed for the problem at hand, billionaire or otherwise.
But when the expert chimed in and said "thanks but no thanks" to his crappy idea, Elon Musk took it super personally and called the dude a pedophile, which is a life-ruining accusation when it comes from a multi-billionaire with millions of rabid fans who think he's the next Edison. Even if only 1% of his fanbase believed it was true, that's still a lot of people who now genuinely believe that guy rapes kids and only cared about rescuing the Thai youth soccer team because he was a child predator. They're going to spread the lie and ruin his reputation. Musk was never punished for this and gave a half-hearted apology to improve the dismal optics he was facing.
sure, I agree with your second paragraph but wdym by "the submarine had not been built"? are you just going by assumptions or do you mean something else?
