Being on Lemmy has made me realize that not having to constantly deal with nazis on your instance kind of rocks and I want that same experience on the rest of the federation.

I'm currently on mastodon.social and matrix.org and have had my problems with both but don't know where a good place to move would be. Help me find a better place to set up on the federation. This thread was spurred by https://lemmy.ml/post/13634062 but really it's been a problem i've been having for awhile now and would like to take preventative actions before liberalism starts to become hardcore nazified.

toots.matapacos.dog is the unofficial Hexbear Mastodon (technically Hometown) instance. Posts have a 2,000 character limit instead of 500. It has few active users currently.

Seems like the strongest candidate so far.

Come to genzedong.xyz for matrix and I think the matapacos instance on mastodon is nice, there is a lemmygrad associated instance that is not a mastodon but works on mastodon, there is this akkoma instance(that works wirh mastodon) https://spectreofcommunism.boo/ that people are promoting round here too. I'm sure those are not the only ones but might be worth a shot

Ooh spectreofcommunism has a 5,000 char limit. I do like to be able to complete a thought. Microblogging is an artifact of Twitter’s dumb phone text message origins, and is structurally limited to shitposting.

And these sickos wrote it in Elixir and run their own forge? waow-based

Don't like it don't use it, I was just giving some suggestions to the comrade who asked about alternatives, if you have better ones suggest away

I don’t understand how any of that could be interpreted as dislike.

make a personal website on neocities.org

And with this I can access the federation? I'm going to look more into this later, thanks!

honestly I have not had an issue on mastodon , all three instances I've had or have accounts on after moving from mastodon.social have required approval to join and many instances are quite active when it comes to cross instance moderation , which encourages instance ~~admins~~ maids to be quite active , though note that , at least the parts that I frequent , are mostly quite open to everything which is not hate speech , however some hosting providers may be less accepting (for context woem.men is forced to look for a new hosting provider after someone reported a picture of two girls kissing as CSA content) .

If you are looking for a server to move to , tools like joinmastodon.com/servers , instances.social or fedi.garden (note: I have not used fedi.garden) can be quite useful . note that joining a smaller server can actually improve your experience , especially if you already found people to follow . you might also find fedi.tips's article about choosing an instance helpful (note that they also host fedi.garden)

also note that in my , and others with similar views (not only Marxist but also Anarchist and Socialist ) , opinion liberalism being vulnerable to far right wing influences is something that is hard to counteract if not impossible . liberalism either does not acknowledge or does put enough weight to issues that can be then used by far right wing people to capture ground .
