Not only euros. 95.8% of world population have no idea why you measure length with your body parts.

[-] cordlesslamp@lemmy.today 9 points 1 week ago

Then later on redefine the units by using metrics anyway because everything is fucked up.

[-] Godric@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Wait what part of my body is a mile? Are you calling me fat? :,[

[-] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

It's OK maybe it'll still grow.

[-] Pietrasagh@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Mile is defined as 5280 feet, isn't it?

I would never called you fat! Maybe slightly overweight 🤣

Funniest imperial unit I see in my work from time to time is pressure in psf. Punds per square foot - very painfull unit.

I pronounce kilo more with an ee sound, like keylo, so I read it as skeelometre, which sounds really funny, like I'm doing a bad impression of an eastern European accent

So there's one single method left. The new communicator developed by Apple: iSlam!

[-] swordgeek@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago

That's kilometre.

Ironivally, the only country that officially uses kilometer is...the US.

[-] Ephera@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 week ago

Here in Germany, it's also called "kilometer", albeit in our German bastardization of Ancient Greek.

Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden all use Meter

[-] magikmw@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

Try kilometr in polish. What, don't like consonants so close together?

Strč prst skrz krk.

One of my life's greatest achievements was convincing a guy from Brazil that the sentence above is not ridiculously stupid.

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

nah a lot of people around the world use US spelling because it is more accessible and generally makes more sense than french
