Today, we’re all MAGA (www.spectator.co.uk)

When Ronald Reagan was shot on 30 March 1981, his wound was not immediately noticed. It wasn’t until he started bleeding from the mouth that the car was diverted from the White House to the hospital. The story goes that upon arrival, the president said to the surgeons, ‘I just hope you’re Republicans.’ A doctor is said to have replied: ‘Today, Mr. President, we’re all Republicans.’

...

American politics has sunk so low into the cesspit of political despair, there will be a rare few who can’t bring themselves to say this. Rather than muster up the humour of Reagan, or the humanity of the doctors, they won’t hesitate to keep pouring petrol onto a nation already ablaze. Those takes won’t be received very well. If there is anything left tying America’s national fabric together, it’s that such instances of violence can’t be tolerated.

No the fuck we aren't. I'm not going to openly advocate for political violence because I find it to be a tactical mistake, but don't think for a second that the world wouldn't be better off without that fucker in it. He needs to be crushed today, just like he needed to be crushed yesterday. Let's do it the peaceful way in November so we don't have to use other options later.

VOTE. VOTE. VOTE.Get others to vote.

The thing about political violence is only one party has been advocating for it so I’m not going to feel too bad when they get what they want even if I never wanted it in the first place.

Maybe we can all sneeze on him?

"Today we're all fascists"

Fuck no, we're not. You can condemn an attempt by a random citizen to kill a criminal as usurpation of the democratic process and laws passed by it without having the least bit of sympathy for the fascist and his cronies.

Fuck you. MAGA is inherently anti Republic and anti American. Get fucked.

Political violence is bad. That's the reason Americans are still calling for justice against the MAGA mob and it's leaders in Congress, SCOTUS, and White House at the time to be arrested, charged, and removed from our communities to protect this nation.

You're enemies of us all, even if political violence is now become the norm under your auspices.

If it were 1934 and someone attempted to assassinate Hitler, I wouldn't say "today we're all Nazi's", I'd continue about my day not caring about the piece of shit...

Trump deserves the same amount of empathy he shows the "others" he vilifies. Zero.

No, we're not all violent fascists. That's not how that works.

[-] distantsounds@lemmy.world 36 points 1 month ago

I'm not as eloquent as many of the other comments, so I'll just save us all some time... fuck you

Geez, if a person from a group being a target for violence makes us all members of that group, we must have been Palestinian more than a hundred times over since this rally happened

Oh hell naw

This is a weird headline generally, but it's even weirder given that a UK outlet wrote it.

This just further screams to me this was staged in some way. Everything thing I've seen since the event, keeps saying that Trump getting elected is now for sure. Why?

A Trump win in November has never seemed more likely. .... But this moment – symbolised by a bleeding Trump, standing with his fist in the air – is going to have more of an impact on voters than any debate or attack line ever could.

I do not understand why this would impact anything.

It guarantees some subsection of the dumbfucks in this country who otherwise would have stayed home will now vote as a virtue signal. That is all it takes to sway the election really.
