What the title says. Im looking for fun/informative youtube vids on anything leftish. I already have some channels I enjoy like Secondthought and the deprogram gang. Im just trying to avoid libshit or reactionaries.

EDIT- Thanks to all the posters who recommended something

Not all explicitly leftist, but if they’re not they don’t talk about it much:

Defunctland - Deep dives on closed/abandoned theme parks/attractions and lost media. His videos on the Disney fastpass system and Disney channel theme music are amazing.

Jay Foreman - Comedic geography videos

Noah Samsen - Explicit leftist, mostly covers internet culture but not exclusively

I Did A Thing - Unhinged engineering. “World’s largest beyblade” is a good one.

Boy Boy - Explicitly leftist, went to the DPRK to get a haircut several years ago. One of the hosts also runs I Did A Thing.

Nexpo - Analog and Internet horror

Michael Reeves - Unhinged engineering. “Roomba that screams when it bumps into stuff” is a good one.

We’re in Hell - Leftist, pop-culture analysis

Hbomberguy - Leftist, talks about whatever he wants to honestly. Highly recommend his videos on YouTube plagiarism and the origin of the Roblox “oof” noise

Technology connections - How technology works. Often obsolete technology, not always. His videos on dishwashers are a good starting point.

Sam O’Nella Academy - Comedy history, he’s probably a lib but still decent and his video on banana republics is pretty on point.

Summoning Salt - History of video game speedrunning records.

I've been digging RevolutionaryThot as far as newer channels go

[-] the_itsb@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

hell yeah, I think you turned me on to that channel too, thank you

hard to pick a favorite video because they're all great – maybe the one on Capitalist Conditioning would be a good starting place?

Crime pays, but botany doesn’t if you can stomach a Chicago accent.

Chinese Cooking Demystified is a great resource in how to make Chinese food.

Fidel the Untold Story is an awesome documentary about Fidel/Cuban revolution.

Any documentary by Adam Curtis is worth watching, especially Hypernormalisation, The Century of Self (four part series), Can't Get you Out of my Head (first episode starts off slow but it picks up afterwards.) He also recently released a 7 part series on the fall of the USSR (with no narration, which is unlike him).

Also, not political at all but I fuckin' love Hoocho he makes hydroponic systems and I just think they're neat. He's got some awesome time lapse plant growing videos.

Something more of a "fun" vibe and great when stoned: Internet comment etiquette with Erik.

Sam O Nella's stuff is short, entertaining, and informational. He's probably a lib, but his video on banana republics is good.

If you're looking for something abit different but still appealing to women, New Smosh is pretty damn good these days. In particular I have really enjoyed Shayne and Amanda's videoed podcast SmoshMouth, because it is a lot more quiet, but still a great little watch, and basically 'apolitical to unspecified radlib'.

Yeah i remember seeing you post about his modern art video, which was a big perspective changer for me as well (even tho i was already very pro-art)

[-] Egon@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

Glad it had an impact! Have you seen the one he's done on art heists? It's great too.

[-] autismdragon@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

I havent but ill check it out.

I've been enjoying this channel so far. It's from a Palestinian perspective and deals with subjects such as colonialism, the genocide in occupied Palestine, racism, and Indigenous issues. Also +1 to Boy Boy.

EDIT: This channel is full of short, hilarious skits mocking western double standards, especially on Palestine.

How about John Berger's "Ways of Seeing"? It's a chill old BBC documentary critiquing western art and identifying class dynamics in art production over the last few centuries.
