I made an account on lemm.ee, but it seems that no one uses it, even though it's recommended by join-lemmy.org .

but it seems that no one uses it

No one uses it? It's a pretty popular instance. Just because it doesn't have many popular communities doesn't mean people aren't using it, we just spend our time on communities on other instances.

[-] grimer@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago

I love it. It’s always up and is federated with just about everything.

[-] stu@lemmy.pit.ninja 32 points 1 year ago

It does not matter how many people are on your instance. The only things that matter are that your instance hasn't been defederated from other instances with communities you'd want to participate in, that it is kept up to date and online, and that your instance owner/operators stay on top of moderation. I've not heard of any problems along these lines with lemm.ee

[-] gelberhut@lemdro.id 1 points 1 year ago

Well, user base could have impact chances that instance will be supported for a long time in a good way.

On top of that, in your "all" feed you only see communities which users from your instance subscribe. Smaller instance - emptier this list. This is a discoverability.

[-] Obsession@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

I'm not sure I entirely agree. The more popular your instance is, the more content you're likely to get on /all

[-] kratoz29@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

You have a fair point, but as of now I think being federated with beehaw, lemmy.world and lemmy.ml and a few others is enough to get some good content.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

But you only get communities from them in all if someone has already subscribed to each specific one. You don't get all the communities from the instance automatically.

[-] scottywh@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

This is true but every day more communities are subscribed to by someone.

[-] Blaze@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago

You can ask the admin to run https://github.com/Fmstrat/lcs to subscribe to every community

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I'm already subscribed to over 200 communities. If I needed to change instances I could just migrate them over.

[-] kratoz29@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Well, at least I have compared c/all from my Lemmy.world account with my lemmy.ee account and I can't find any noticeable differences, if any here we have beehaw content.

[-] Blaze@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago

You can ask the admin to run https://github.com/Fmstrat/lcs to subscribe to every community

[-] Encode1307@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

No, you get more content on /local, but the same content as any other instance on /all (assuming your instance isn't defederated from other big instances).

[-] Today@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

When .world started having issues i made lemm.ee account to get into and now use it almost exclusively. Seems great.

[-] Shikadi@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Seems like plenty of people are using it?

[-] Chefdano3@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It's great for me. I started there and it's still good. The admin seems cool too, staying on top of updates and addressing issues that pop up.

[-] EeeDawg101@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

Yep and the admin has actually assisted Lemmy.world’s admin to solve their issues before. That fact alone made me settle on lemm.ee - like you’re making a good decision going with this one.

[-] Terevos@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago

It's great. Way better uptime than lemmy.world or lemmy.ml

[-] kratoz29@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

When I moved from Lemmy.world lemmy.ee was facing some issues as well, seems to no longer be the case!

[-] jkozaka@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Is the server going down a normal occurrence? Good to know I picked a more stable instance.

[-] Terevos@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

World had quite a few issues. I think they've resolved it though.

And even .ml had some security issues. But the lemm.ee dude had already patched the security hole with a custom build and was helping all the other admins.

I quite like the instance owner's work and transparency.

[-] JimmyDean@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

It's great. I get all of the access to the Fediverse without really any of the connectivity issues I experienced on my lemmy.world account

[-] lagomorphlecture@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

I haven't had any issues with the instance being down and that's one of the most important things.

[-] MakeItCount@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I use it when lemmy.world is down

Which seems to happen less and less recently

Lemm.ee best instance, lemmy.world worst instance.

It doesn't matter how many communities an instance hosts since you can interact with any community on any instance (barring any defederation). Lemm.ee's strength is in being a fast, reliable instance with the best admin.

[-] Izzy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I think join-lemmy.org recommends at random so it doesn't particularly mean anything. No reason not to use it though as you can view the the lemmyverse from any of them.

[-] OrganicMeatbag@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I have an account there and the only downsides are image uploads are limited to 100kb.

I also sometimes have an episode where it doesn't communicate as quickly with other instances as another instance would. Example: I posted something from my lemm.ee account to a lemmy.world community earlier today and it took several hours to upload there. (When viewing from the .world or SJW instances, my lemm.ee post wasn't there for several hours). I have had this issue before with different instances but the posts/comments eventually find their way to the right place.

Otherwise, it's a solid instance with great uptime. Updated with new releases quickly. The owner takes a very active role in maintaining a secure and reliable server. It is federated with a high majority of instances (including beehaw.org) Of all the instances I tried out through the last few months, it is one of my top picks.

[-] 4am@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

They delay to lemmy.world is probably due to the fact that lemmy.world is down most of the time now due to ongoing DDoS attacks

[-] Rexios@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

I guess I’m no one then

[-] TruTollTroll@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I just joined, cause.. fuck reddit.. but so far I enjoy it. I am having good discussions with others and it seems like there is a lot of traffic here..

[-] jkozaka@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Ye! Found out about lemmy through r/place. Haven't looked back.

[-] quicksand@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Wow so all that time and effort people put in to spam lemmy there actually worked! Welcome, I left reddit when my app stopped working about a month ago

[-] kratoz29@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

I have an account here and I like it, no drama, federated with almost everything and good uptime.

The only downside I see is that I think media upload is limited at 100 KBs for now, granted I could be wrong.

[-] soullioness@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

That's basically the only reason I'm not on there.

[-] kratoz29@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it is a bummer, I guess it works fine for lurkers

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[-] beefbaby182@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I use my alt there for shitposting here.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

One of the food communities I'm in gets hit with spam bots all using lemm.ee, I don't know how widespread it is.

[-] SuperSpaceFan@artemis.camp 2 points 1 year ago

I'm coming across spam bots on communities of several instances. So I'm thinking this is not an issue unique to Lemm.ee. Fortunately you can get around that by using the blocking features in the PWA, in the browser and in some of the native apps.

Learn how this all works and think about asking a different question.
