Those Russian soldiers are really poor guys - they were in trenches 5 days without food and water. They haven’t washed for month. They are in Ukrainian captivity right now where good conditions are waiting for them.

Look, I wish all the best for Ukraine and hope they win soon, but videos like this should be taken with a grain of salt. There is Propaganda on both sides.

Edit: Note to self: Don't ever comment on political posts again.

Pretty sure the user giving you grief is AI, you didn't say anything wrong.

War is never 100% clean from any side.

[-] nebulaone@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Thanks, I was actually starting to doubt myself.

[-] borari@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 months ago

Are you implying the video is fake, like they aren’t Russian captives? Or are you implying that the Russian captives are lying?

The fact that Russian captives are saying anything beyond name, rank, and serial number while obviously being recorded is already a huge L for russian military training and discipline.

[-] nebulaone@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago

Dont put words in my mouth. I didn't claim any of these things.

[-] borari@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 4 months ago

So what were you trying to say when you said “… videos like this should be taken with a grain of salt. There is propaganda on both sides.”?

I don’t want to put words in your mouth, but you’re very obviously trying to imply something there, so just say it.

For the record I made it very clear that I was asking you what you were implying, I doubt any rational person would read anything in my previous comment as putting words in your mouth.

@nebulaone @borari No one put words in your mouth. Just asked simple questions.

[-] nebulaone@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

There is a reason this was recorded and posted online. I don't think it is fake. But I also don't believe that every POW recieves the same treatment.

This will be my last reply. I can believe whatever I want. And as I said I want Ukraine to win. I am not some russian troll if that's what you're getting at.

[-] alslater@hachyderm.io 2 points 4 months ago

@nebulaone I am not getting at anything. I do not dispute your right to believe what you want, just interested if you had anything to support the idea that ruzzians were being mistreated by Ukraine. I have not seen anything to support that.

In a war you rarely have independent proof, that's the point. So there is nothing wrong with being a bit cautious and sceptical when hearing news and I feel you are being a bit harsh.

And for sure propaganda exists on both sides, I guess no one is seriously disputing this. At the same time I have no doubts that being a PoW is 1000 times better than being in a Russian trench. But still I can acknowledge that reports like this are not some kind of independent journalism.

[-] Delta_V@lemmy.world 35 points 4 months ago

I wonder if this is the reason Russia is suddenly so interested in getting their PoW's back that were captured in Kursk? Were those the fortunate sons of the politically well-connected? Could there be a serious psychological threat if the political elite learn just how much better life could be if they got rid of Putin?

[-] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 26 points 4 months ago

Were those the fortunate sons of the politically well-connected?

They were likely conscripts (not legally deployable in Ukraine, but are in Russia), so entirely possibly they were sons of middle class or politically connected Russians from St Petersburg or Moscow.

Ugh. Just a bunch of hungry boys who need help and guidance from a regime not trying to fuck them over

Hopefully they get the chance to fight for the right side this time, or help in whatever way they can

[-] A_A@lemmy.world 15 points 4 months ago

Great incentive for them to surrender.

[-] Megaman_EXE@beehaw.org 9 points 4 months ago

I hope this continues. It's always better to offer the opposition a peaceful way out. Less casualties for both sides that way and the potential to end fights early saving time and energy better spent elsewhere.

I thought Khorne Group was a cokncidence, but they've literally got a Mark of Khorne on the wall? That's not really the icon of humanitarian fairness or level-headed military professionals. Love me some nerds though.

I have nothing to contribute to the political conversation and I don't think their use of this reference is indicative of their mindset (beyond the fact that they're nerds, which I love).

Edit: I have nothing to contribute because I don't currently have the energy for critical analysis. I just wish humans would stop suffering the malice of tyrants, both the victims of his aggressiom and the pawns doing his bidding and paying for it.

No surprise there really.
