ah this has been such a known and widespread problem that multiple communities banded together to create Indie Wiki Buddy

I refuse to participate in a two-tiered web of the power users who get to use free services uninterrupted and the bulk of everyday users who have to pay for it with ad garbage.

This section is one of the most insane takes that I've seen recently.

He... he realizes that ad blockers aren't some secret voodoo, right? They're not paid, they require no setup, and they're trivial to find and install. At their simplest, they're literally just a browser plugin, installable in the same way that casual users already install themes.

I don't think the vast majority of users use browser plugins at all. Vodoo or not, the barrier is high enough that it's not a common practice. Certainly not trivial. See the next section; I do think there's a genuine blind spot among tech literate people.

It's kinda like if cars shocked you every time you touched the steering wheel. Car enthusiasts of course know how to pop the hood and remove the shock module, but most drivers aren't car enthusiasts. So when people have a conversation about cars, it needs to start with 'yeah shock wheels kinda suck' because that's what cars are to drivers, even if you have a workaround. If leaving the shock module in as a reminder is what it takes, so be it.

Are we not even going to talk about how many of their sites/wikis are filled with fake/misinformation and go to great lengths to document completely non-existent things in a way that isn't always obvious to outsiders?

Some, examples, here, however there are many examples that make absolutely no mention that anything listed is actually a "fanon".

Tux is a blackbelt in Karate, and has many combat skills including using Katanas and flips (which he learned from Kat and Ana). Tux also has an iq of 135. He's also a skilled Marksman. He's good at driving, can slide on his belly, and is resistant to extreme cold, being a penguin. He's also a good general, and of course, he's great at using Computers. Mostly Linux, but he can use Windows a bit too. He's especially good at Emulation.

LOL

At least I got a laugh out of it. It does seem pretty useless as a reference though.

I don't know how specific that is to Fandom but I am aware of at least one Fandom Wiki for an obscure old console game that's like 50% inexplicable unmarked fanfiction.

That is not sufficient excuse to subject yourself to commercial psychological manipulation. Advertising shits in your brain.

I know Fandom sucks ass and I see it without ads.
