Trump canceled a planned news conference next week where he said he would present claims of election fraud in Georgia from the 2020 election. His lawyers felt it better to file the claims formally in court as they fight his recent indictment in Georgia. The indictment charges Trump with attempting to pressure state officials to overturn the election results. It cites instances where Trump alleged fraud that did not occur. Previously, Trump's campaign had filed lawsuits in Georgia making unfounded claims of issues like dead people voting. Of note, one of the indictment charges relates specifically to a lawsuit Trump signed verifying false claims. Trump remains vocal in disputing the 2020 election results despite lack of evidence.

And it won't show up in court either. But now MAGAs are going to run around screaming about "indisputable evidence of innocence!" Which was the whole point. Just like his healthcare and infrastructure plans.

thats a good point. was there every really going to be a conference?

i think its also possible someone convinced him if he did it, he might trigger a judicial response. he seems to be gettin nervous

I think there was going to be a conference. Trump may or may not have produced the "total exoneration" document he's been crowing about. If he did, it undoubtedly would have been the same drivel cited in the indictment as fabricated misinformation/lies. If he didn't, he'd say it was still being finished. Either way, the conservative world would be citing the document as proof of his innocence. I think the document is merely a distraction. Trump was going to use this conference as a call to arms directed at his idiot thug horde. He's badly wanting to launch January 6th 2.0 against Fulton County. I think he backed off when his lawyers told him he'd end up in a jail cell until trial. This is all total speculation on my part, but quite plausible I think.

Yeah I have to agree. Although I don't think his lawyer told him that releasing whatever like of lies he had would have been damaging to his cases.

this shitstain has always done whatever the fuck he wants regardless of what his lawyers and other experts are telling him. he's fired countless lawyers because they wouldn't perjure themselves etc. for him

the fact that he's now suddenly taking the advice of his lawyers is telling.

this guy is afraid

Trump wrote on Truth Social that his lawyers indicated they would rather he compile his claims about election fraud in the state into “formal Legal Filings as we fight to dismiss this disgraceful Indictment.”

Like slapping a toddler’s hand away from a hot stove.

i would say nothing of value was lost, but i cannot deny the joy of watching this orange turd fall on his face finally. he has done so much damage to... everyone.. he deserves every blanket on the bed he made for himself.

I'm sad, I was looking forward to him incriminating himself some more, which is probably why his lawyers put an end to it.

can you imagine the communal orgasm that would occur if he is actually arrested and put in a cell? i think he'll be dead first.

After this much foreplay I'd get off on that lol

Don't celebrate until he's behind bars. There's still a lot of Teflon on him.

I can not imagine how difficult it must be as a lawyer to represent Trump. I don’t feel sorry for them, mind you, but damn this clown will work overtime to convict himself.

[-] ulkesh@beehaw.org 8 points 1 year ago

His lawyers choose him as a client, they do not have to represent him. I feel no empathy for them.

The former president on Tuesday posted on Truth Social that he would hold an event at his Bedminster, N.J., golf club next Monday to present a report that he said would lay out claims of election fraud in Georgia.

Some of Trump’s legal advisers had reportedly raised concerns that the former president’s planned news conference could further complicate his case, however.

Prosecutors in Fulton County, Ga., this week indicted Trump on 13 charges related to his attempts to pressure state and local officials to alter the 2020 election results in his favor.

In Georgia specifically, Trump’s campaign filed multiple post-election legal challenges seeking to throw out ballots or overturn the results.

One of the charges Trump is facing in Fulton County pertains to a particular lawsuit that was filed on New Year’s Eve 2020 and falsely alleged mass fraud that was enough to change the outcome of the election in Georgia.
