Kevin O'leary will fire you if you use the word "shiny" within earshot of him.

[-] EnderMB@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago

If someone like Kevin O'Leary is pissed off, then it's probably a good thing.

[-] mhague@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

A lot of jobs need constant handouts from their work force just to get things done. But they usually find a way to handsomely pay those at top no matter how much workers are having to do extra. Shouldn't be so much sacrifice and stress considering what top executives receive.

[-] Realitaetsverlust@lemmy.zip 10 points 8 hours ago

Tbh, if you're working that high up the chain that O'Leary calls you personally, you probably are a very wealthy workaholic anyways.

[-] vordalack@lemm.ee 6 points 8 hours ago

Dude is crazy. Isn't he a grifting, fake guru?

[-] robocall@lemmy.world 13 points 11 hours ago

It's so gross how the .01% love being villains to hardworking folk.

[-] whotookkarl@lemmy.world 33 points 15 hours ago

Nobody should give a shit what another reality TV show host business marketing shill grifter has to say about labor regulations. He's the last person I would care about an opinion from on the topic. Not seeing a link, did the article also include a response from labor leaders?

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/dreams-crap-kevin-oleary-slams-110400900.html

Unsurprisingly, the article is more nuanced than the title.

For example, he states he has fired people in the past for not answering an after hours emergency, while the title seems to me to say he would fire people despite the new law.

The article does include a response and background from labor leaders in Australia, as that is the most recent country to enact this law.

But I entirely agree about his character, and he's the worst person on that shark tank show too. I dont know ive ever agreed with a quote of his in an article.

This guy looks like a Dr. Phil and Mussolini photo merge.

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 1 points 7 hours ago

Wow, shock, surprise!

[-] Kalysta@lemm.ee 24 points 19 hours ago

If it’s a new regulation to not answer phones off the clock, isn’t firing the employee for it illegal?

[-] icedterminal@lemmy.world 21 points 18 hours ago

Yes. But you can best believe they will find something else to fire you for. If you have nothing, then it's an easy case win for you.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 26 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

This old asshole doesn't talk to his workers.

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 19 points 20 hours ago

Idk who Kevin O'Leary is but I'm pretty sure he's not my supervisor.

[-] GarlicToast@programming.dev 19 points 21 hours ago

He needs a baseball bat to the knee and a diarrhea to the face. It will improve what comes out of his mouth.

[-] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago

Do it, they'll approve my unemployment.

[-] Rooskie91@discuss.online 32 points 1 day ago

What a fucking baby, when did we start letting children lead?

[-] dumbass@leminal.space 8 points 20 hours ago

Nah, its now we're putting some restraints on these children who have been free to do what ever and now they're having an entitled little tantrum about it, because god fobid the peasants get to relax.

[-] Coreidan@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago

When hasn’t it been this way?

[-] Wooki@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Up next on the news: abusive boss wonders why he can't retain staff. Should the board step in? Shareholders say yes

[-] rainynight65@feddit.org 110 points 1 day ago

Boss announces he will break the law.

[-] xantoxis@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago

Why can't these regulations be actual crimes, with criminal consequences for the perpetrator. And if he's ordering someone else to do the firing, it's "conspiracy to commit regulatory fraud".

[-] okamiueru@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

It'll keep getting worse until heads suddenly start rolling.

[-] merc@sh.itjust.works 132 points 1 day ago

He'll fire workers... what workers exactly? As far as I can tell, he hasn't actually run a business in 25 years. He got rich when Mattel bought his company in 1999, but then they fired him. He invested in a storage facility company, was on the board of directors but never actually had any employees reporting to him, and then he sold that investment, making him more money.

Since then, he's had a number of vanity projects name after himself: O'Leary Funds, O'Leary Ventures, O'Leary Books, O'Leary Fine Wines, I don't know if any of them are still in business, but if they are, I can't imagine he has more than a handful of employees.

Now he's just a reality TV personality, so of course he's going to say bullshit that gets him in the spotlight.

Why would anybody take advice from a reality TV personality who hasn't managed any employees in a quarter of a century? Especially given that he's probably just saying bullshit to get his name in the spotlight again.

There are just under 3000 billionaires in the world. The questions to ask are:

Do you start with the richest and move down the list or start at the bottom and see if the top ones give their money away before you get to them?

Do you sharpen the blade after it starts taking more than one blade drop or just enjoy the tension of the longer show?

[-] hydroptic@sopuli.xyz 3 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

I'm thinking more of a parallelized operation, and where their holdings have been nationalized or otherwise socialized beforehand so they wouldn't really have the option to give their money away.

[-] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 hours ago

I should have been more specific and said Give their companies to the nationalized system of ownership and money into the tax coffers.

This is exactly why we need unions. Just like not having weekends off, it's normal until it isn't.
