Context: a joint Palestinian/Israeli film won best documentary, and it is not easy to find

Pasting my top level comment for visibility.

It would have been nice for some context in the post body, but after reading the comments I learnt this is talking about No Other Land the Documentary.

For those looking to watch this if you’re in the UK, or have a VPN, then you should be able to watch on Channel 4.

Here is a link I will be watching this evening.

Though if you happen to be within Israel or Palestine, you can stream it for free

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 59 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That doesn't tell me anything.

The movie No Other Land won best documentary at the Oscars.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How is anyone supposed to work that out from the absolutely zero context you provided?

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml -2 points 1 week ago

It was kind of the news of the day on the front page everywhere.

This tells you absolutely everything you need to know.

I guess the knowledge is already within us all

It's simple to find all over the world - no subscription necessary!
Do you have internet?

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

I stream plenty of things, sometimes from paid streaming services.

Don't you love how community themes are merely a suggestion on Lemmy?

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean, yeah? Otherwise we'd get rigid humorless mods like in reddit

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But we have rigid, humorless mods here, too? They aren't exclusive to reddit lol

Reddit was pretty good at keeping subs on theme. You could tell when a sub was going to shit when they started allowing "close enough" posts

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

eh, I've never been harassed by a mod here or had to jump through weird hoops to get a post up. In terms of standards, I think mods need prioritize actually getting community engagement before they even need to think about enforcing rules. To do it the other way screams of mod insecurity

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is a huge community with like 2500 daily users lol

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

could have fooled me by the daily post : comment : lurk ratio, but hey

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I dunno man, browse All and this is one of the most prominent communities. I think it's a good community and it doesn't need the rules bent to make it work, it's not like there's a shortage of appropriate posts

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It’s not streaming here, yet, but I can see it in a theater.

USA

I hope the buzz helps the movie overcome the “stigma” and “fear” of the subject here so more folks can see it.

[–] TheFermentalist@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

I downloaded it and watched it on Saturday. Depends how you search whether geo blocking is effective or not

[–] usrtrv@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I'm out of the loop. I tend to watch Oscar noms in theaters. Most of the ones that get streaming within the year are expensive rentals before ending up on subscription platforms.
